Awesome games. Meadow is really nice for little kids that don't know how to write yet, but want to interact with others without the downsides.

For me, the tiny, completely optional online segment of Animal Crossing: New Leaf has to be the most positive. Because there's no competition, and everyone there is just chilling after work talking about their day or sharing tips on weird hardcore parts of the game like villager trading and giving out region-specific items.
Could also be 'cause I played at ridiculous hours in the morning and avoided all the kids, tho :P

Same here. I can deal with a certain amount of constructive criticism, but it's almost never that. It's just a lot of sore losers looking for excuses. The constant blame game gets annoying, especially since they're either flat out wrong or hypocritical most of the time.

Well, to be honest, im playing older games (like cod2), so I cant comment on the modern situation and how that works. But if someone is raging on the microphone, mute it. If someone is sperging on the chats, stop focusing on that and just play. By typing they are not playing the game, and the distraction he cause give you advantage.
Usually though, people just thrashtalk in fun, and people misintrepet it as personal assault.

In my case it's usually teammates who are toxic, though, so that's definitely a disadvantage, because even if I deal with it well, the tilted person is unable to play well and often drag other teammates down with them. Toxic players is always a problem in team-based games.
I disagree that people usually trash talk in fun, I think most of the time it shows how frustrated people are and how they can't deal with being defeated, because that requires a certain amount of humility. They'd (especially youth) rather pretend like they're never doing anything wrong and that if they're defeated, it's someone else's fault. With that mindset, it's no wonder they're frustrated. They're competitive players who want to become great, but are unable to, because they have low self-awareness. To become better, you have to realize your flaws/weaknesses and work on them.

Yeah, I some times think the same. Then again, levels/ranks can some times be an incentive to improve as a player, having a goal, or "something to look forward to."
I absolutely love Rocket League. The toxicity ruins some of the fun, though, that's inevitable, unless you have impeccable self-control. Some times I just play casual, a non-ranked playlist and just enjoy taking the game less seriously. It's much more relaxing.

I think the insurgency and day of infamy communities were about the best I'd experienced. Especially in the co-op modes obviously, as you're not competing with each other, just trying to get through the missions. I think it also helps that the more realistic style is not so appealing to the younger crowd.

Yeah, I guess every game is going to have guys who are playing online to vent frustrations with their real life, but for the most part it was a pretty mature crowd, and definitely one of my favourite shooter games. I am hoping to get the sequel sometime soon.

I completely agree. But if you are into such games try rising storm/ red orchestra 2. The community there is even better.
For example there were a lot of time that i was playing with japan with other 32 players and the leader organised us all in the right side of the map in order to banzai charge them. 32 players rushing the enemies is an experience that you dont see every day and its so awesome.

For the few minutes I've played Verdun, the people there were very nice - I think mostly because the game's population is alarmingly low so new players are more than desired.

Yeah I've noticed that games with a low population are often friendlier. Because those that play it are genuinely just there because they like the game, not because they care about a rank or KD ratio, as no one is going to care if you are prestige level 100 on a game that no one else plays.

Rift had a good community back when I was still playing MMO's. Helped by the fact that they made that fun to just mess about in the open world, instead of waiting around in a faction hub until you get pulled into the next dungeon instance

Rising storm/ red orchestra 2. If you are into realistic shooter you will be amazed by how much people are cooperating and being friendly. There were a lot of matches that a specific leader organised all the other 31 players in a side of the map in order to banzai charge them. Nobody was doing his own thing, everyone was a part of the plan.

As a joke answer ElderScrolls Legends as you can't talk ingame.
There will always be this one guy in every game
There was once (wow I just realized there still is) the browser game called (Second Home)[https://www.second-home.org/?language=1] unlike nearly all others it's not based on direct conflict no newbie farming, bashing etc. which makes it really chilly with a friendly community (mostly germans).

And yet people found a way - at least in Hearthstone, by constantly spamming emotes, or leaving right before you could win, or letting each turn take the max amount of time when they realized they were losing. I don't remember if the ability to mute other players was always there, but it was a necessary addition.
Same for Rocket League - some jerks love to spam emotes. It's like, where there's a will, internet jerks will find a way.

Armello is definitely toxic at present unfortunately. In the past it wasn't though. The existing phrases can be used to be toxic, such as someone spamming laugh when someone dies or has bad luck, threats, etc. There is also the forms of cyber bullying(even if small) that can occur when all other players(friends or not) make it their mission to keep you in your spawn. There is more, but the point is, it is far from not toxic now.

Back when I was still playing Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2, the community was very positive even towards newbies. Though sometimes there would be one or two negative players in dungeons who either refused to follow the group or was more focused on cheesing through the dungeon quickly and would lose their temper at players who made mistakes. I quit when my guild leaders started posting political and religious stuff in contravention of their own guild rules.
I think I should take a look at ESO again, since I haven't logged in for years since the initial launch.

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Unreal Tournament 99 was nice too, to some extent

100% Orange Juice generally has a nice community. That’s pretty much the only game I’ll play with others online, because I don’t want to deal with toxicity.

Path of Exile. Because you can just play it on your own...

Secret World probably. Although I was playing this game quite a long time ago and, even though I tried to delve into it again, I didn't actually manage to change my mind and start playing it again, I'm pretty sure I never even met a single toxic player in the whole game. I only found helpful people, happy to help me even when I wasn't asking for help. And the game was fun, as long as you like riddles too. ;P

CS:GO? there was an update where well behaved people get matched with themselves, and toxic people with themselves, since then my experiences has been pretty good.

Overwatch Asian server (particularly SEA/EA) just because nobody talks and rarely there's any chat as far as my experience go and even if anyone did, I can't understand them anyway :D
Seriously though, I've yet to encounter any toxicity in Dauntless. Of course, it's not a guarantee and I can only vouch for my experience with the game. I don't know about the larger community as I rarely go to their respective forums.

ive met some really nice people playing dota and csgo

but CS:GO also has a huge toxic playerbase sometimes /: wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for positivity ;D
also if DOTAs playerbase is similar to LoLs it's basically the same as CS:GO.
[at least when I used to play cs:go actively ~ 1 1/2yrs ago. Nowadays just playing 2-5games per week..]
Sure, there are a lot of nice people, but there also are a lot of toxic players...

When you get a match full of positivity it's the best thing ever. Good vibes are infectious, though bad vibes tend to be too. I'm curious to know of any online games that have a very upbeat and positive playerbase. I'd imagine that some lesser known niche games with a mostly grown adult audience would come bundled with the nicest crowd of people.
For me I think the best vibes I've gotten from an online community was in Elder Scrolls Online, not that there wasn't people being stupid on chat in crowded areas but the overwhelming majority of interactions I had with other people were really pleasant.
Obligatory giveaway. Feel free to enter without feeling pressured to comment on this thread :) (SGTools and level 1+)
