Hey guys.
Need a little help about an issue. A few hours ago i've send a game to a friend as a gift. It's Dead By Daylight. Unfortunately after accepting it..he is not able to start installing it. The button is just missing. Here is how it looks like : http://prikachi.com/images.php?images/718/9211718M.jpg
There is no issue with the rest of the games he has..but just with this one. Reinstalling Steam doesnt help.
Any suggestions what could be the reason ?
Thank you

His problem is most likely in the Operating System he's using (by looking at his taskbar at the bottom of the screen).

Dead by Daylight requires a 64-bit Operating Systems (Windows 7, Windows 8 & Windows 8.1 or above). It cannot be installed in other platforms.

He is obviously using win7+. Or do you think that's Linux?

Sarcasms aside, I'll take your word for it. Personally wouldn't have associated it to 7, but to a previous version of Windows.

Choosing the install option from the Steam dropdown menu should provide a more enlightening error message.

It looks like Windows 98 but I don't think the current version of Steam is even compatible with that OS anymore so it's probably 7 with a skin

98 didn't have pinning to the taskbar or that tall of a taskbar without multiple lines of applications. windows 7 had an option to tone down the graphics for older computers, which looked like this. i guess you could call it a skin but it's one that came with it. while setting it up like that could be personal preference, it probably means the computer is older and that's an indicator that it might be 32-bit hardware which is incapable of running this game because it's 64-bit.

you can run 32-bit and 64-bit applications on 64-bit windows (which requires a 64-bit cpu) because it includes both 64- and 32-bit libraries. at any point from cpu to os to application you can ignore the upper half of the registers to do 32-bit on a 64-bit system, but you can't ever add it back.

System requirements for the games are for running the game and they should not affect steam visually in any way. What i mean is that he should have problem running the game under 32bit OS ( or not running it at all ) ..instead of not having issues installing it. Missing install button should be more related with Steam requirements instead of the game itself requirements. I don't know. That's what i think.

Unfortunately you're wrong. Steam hides the install button if the game isn't compatible with your system. It's the most likely reason, so check if he has a compatible windows version before you look for possible bugs.

If you are right, that would be pretty poor decision of steam. Without proper notification how users should know what might be the possible reason for the issue ? Ask for help in the forums i believe ...0_o o_0

The information about what systems the game is compatible with is clearly visible on the store page before purchasing it.

Some people use Steam on several different operating systems and the lack of an install button is a great way to know that the game isn't compatible with the system you're currently on. It doesn't get much clearer or better. It saves you the problem of installing it and then not understanding why it doesn't work right.

Thank you. Still i prefer a proper message instead of not getting any message at all. it's kind of frustrating when you meet this for the first time.

I agree a message would make things clear! I think the reason it hasn't been changed is that it's so rare to encounter it, so not that many people have contacted support about it.

Anyway, if all else fails, be sure to post the problem on the game's Discussion Board (Technical Support).

Seems you're not alone, others have had the same problem, and some even report having solved it (although frustratingly they do not indicate the solution).

you can right click on the name then select "install" and you should have a message "this game is not compatible with your system".
