There's a pirated version floating around on the internet that has ps3's grahics. You should try it.

Lack of some tech on the card that's required...so no. You have a choice between just being kicked out of the game, or loading to a black screen.
In this case it looks like it's looking for the DX11 Pixel Shader version and not finding it.

Hmm, well looks like I either threw away a good chunk of money, or I can spend even more to buy it for PS3 or get a new graphics card. I hate to get a new card over 1 game... but I guess it would keep me playing newer ones coming out. Any suggestions for a card that can handle this game, and any foreseeable newer ones for a while, for around the $100 mark? I have a wedding coming up so I don't want to spend too much right now. In fact, I may just wait until after it and get a better one?

I'd suggest to wait until after it, so you could get yourself a serious gaming card. But if you don't really want to wait, look for something in R7 lineup, like R7 260x or R7 265 - although not great, but decent enough for gaming. These will cost around $140-160.

Get a second hand r290 by Sapphire. Those cards were/are the single best card for BitCoin mining.
Now that that has died off mostly, a lot of these cards are being dumped onto the market again with almost full warranty still on them. Should it burn out, you can send it in for replacement/repair in warranty normally.

I got this game as I've read success stories of getting it to run on older graphics cards. I'm not looking for ultra settings, even the lowest would suffice. Now, I know the minimum settings listed are for the "next-gen" experience, as per Bethesda's website, but I'm just looking for a chance to get it running.
My setup is:
AMD Phenom II x6 cores @ 2.8 GHz
10 GIG RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
AMD Radeon HD 4870 x2
I'm running what I believe are the latest drivers for the card, 8.970.100.7000 from 11/16/2012. I know the page recommends Catalyst 14.4, but my card is too old for that. I've updated .NET framework. Earlier today when I clicked "Play Now" it just popped up with a blue screen full of information, but the end stated
fatal error:wglChoosePixelFormatARB
Since rolling back my Catalyst version to 11.12, it no longer does that. It now "successfully" launched the game, but after a very slow/choppy Bethesda intro video and an equally slow/choppy MachineGames intro, the game just closes. There are no "This game has stopped working" boxes, no error messages, no anything. It simply closes as if it was never opened.
Does anyone have any thoughts or fixes? It appears it now opens, so I've made minor progress, but of course I'd just like to play.
Thank you in advance!
