I think, when you pay just 0.01 you will still get keys if the games greenlight. Trololololol

Well you will not get steam keys for games that are there now, just DRM version, but for the games that are not there yet (after greenlight) well ... who knows ...

You forgot to list Multimedia Fusion 2 in $1 tier.

For people who wondering:

  • You'll get Standard license of the software (worth 99 euro if im not mistaken)
  • Multimedia Fusion 2 on Greenlight is replaced by updated version of software, Clickteam Fusion 2.5. They both are different thing. Thus there's no Steam key for MMF2 as it is discontinued.
  • You can use license from this Humble promo to request for upgrade discount ($39 for Standard -- A great deal than paying normal $99!) Y̶o̶u̶'̶l̶l̶ ̶a̶l̶s̶o̶ ̶g̶e̶t̶ ̶S̶t̶e̶a̶m̶ ̶k̶e̶y̶ EDIT: Sorry wrong info in my part. Upgrades from HIB does not grant you Steam key.

Upgrade from Humble?
They are giving you Standard license for MMF2 so you can use it straight away.

I'm absolutely baffled as to the fact that MMF isn't BTA. . . . or even in this period. I suspect them to run out of keys.

I'm surprised that they haven't even sold that many. As of now only about 38,600 copies with 139k total dollars sold. It seems like the software would be much more popular. Even the Humble Jumbo Bundle hasn't hit 2M, and it's at least in the top fourth of all Humble Bundles. I don't know what's up with HB this week, but I was expecting them to make more!

I want the two Nifflas games, faerie solitaire and pitri 1977.

Because of the upcoming Winter Sale, which I can wait for, the prices I'll assign to these games are:

75% off knytt Underground =2.50; A maximum of 85% would make it 1.50/

Same for Night sky

75% off Faerie Solitaire =2.50; Because of the 90% coupons flying around for it there's a decent chance it'll come down to 50 cents

Pitri 1977 is the deal breaker, since it will have been on steam for too short a time to get a deep discount. Thinking the Max will be half off (3 dollars)

So if I wait for the Winter sale and its as good as I hope it'll be then the most I'll have to pay is 10.50, the least about 6.50 and possibly less. Good enough odds for me to pick this up, though I'll mill around giveaways until the last minute.

From Humble Bundle:

"Pitiri 1977 and OddPlanet have been Greenlit on Steam and will be available to Humble Weekly Sale: Multimedia Fusion 2 buyers when it’s ready! If MANOS: The Hands of Fate is Greenlit on Steam, it will also be ready on your download page if and when available."

Ooh Splotches...some random game I downloaded for fun during one of the Game Giveaway of the Day. Was a bit quaint and fun, pity it's not currently on Greenlight

Don't really mind not having a Steam version of a lot of stuff, at least Humble hosts copies so as long as they have the bandwidth...

It's baffling to me how so many people prefer Steam DRM to DRM-free. I realize Steam brings some benefits (cards, achievements, convenience, etc) but really it's still DRM which used to be universally considered a bad thing.

Permalink

yea but steam drm is optional if im not wrong we still have offline mode p.s. awesome avatar love that band

Comment has been collapsed.

Offline mode only works if you install Steam, log in and then activate offline mode. And it's tied to one computer. So if you forget to enable offline mode and then find yourself without internet (happened to me a few times) you are screwed. A DRM-free game never relies on the internet like that.

P.S. Yeah Flogging Molly is awesome!

Steam itself is not drm though. There are actually many drm-free games on steam, that you can play without even starting up steam, and you can even copy paste the folder to a usb pen and play the game everywhere you want.

is a steam account with internet access and the steam client installed required to install them? Do I need to run it once through steam?

And you need to download your DRM free games first. Same with Steam.

Steam is NOT a DRM.

There are many games that will not launch from their .exe without Steam being open as well. The Steam client itself is not DRM, but Valve does have DRM which requires Steam to be open.

Permalink

Sure. Just saying the it being drm-free or not does not depend on it being on steam or not. The developers choose the drm they use(not using being one of the options) There are some drm-free games on Steam and that was my point.

There are really no advantages of Steam except not having to find the game installer, then click "install - next - next - next"...and that it auto-updates games...other than that, I see nothing that Steam does better than a DRM-free release...actually, Steam itself is a constant 150MB RAM waste so if your PC is on the minimum specs for a game, no-Steam running will be a very good thing for you

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Auto-updates, integrates friend list, voice chat, text chat, screenshots, etc (all the Steam in game interface is quite usefull, specially with those games that tend to crash when Alt+tabed). Then you have an integrated download manager for your games with a resume option, achievements, trading cards, played time tracker, personalized profile, review system.

You have a lot of advantages vs non intrusive DRM? You can set Steam offline and you don`t have to worry about anything and at least in my personal experience i had very few times issues with Steam which none were a big issue. And if you have issues because it is using 150 MB of ram you need to update or change that computer as even modern web browser use more Ram than that.

Voice chat and screenshots in particular are pretty useless (not to mention most games have their own voice chat system anyway), while the alt+tab thing - if Steam didn't have that overlay, developers might actually release non-broken games for a change.
Friends list integrated with games...yeah, you have a point there, it is kind'a cool, but that could've been done with a simple account login (a-la-facebook style) rather than a whole client (and have the client as an optional thing).

But all that aside - Steam's offline mode is something I won't count ever. As a person that often travels and cant have internet for months at a time, I can safely tell you - unless you have a way to login, you're out of luck. Earlier this yeah I was on a trip and I had to reinstall my windows - simple enough, I got that built-in my laptop, even the activation can be come by phone...I got backups of my steam games but - cant login my account - cant use the backups. So what did I do? - Played my GoG games and the ones from Humble Bundle.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying Steam is the devil and should disappear, but I AM saying DRM-free is always better.

You can have the friend list, voice chat, text chat, screenshots and even the steam overlay on your drm-free, non-steam games. You can add the game as a "non-steam game" and you can use all those features.

It's really just personal preference. Not having to find the game installer and not having to update manually is HUGE for me. THAT is what makes steam worthwhile to me. With the number of games I have I quickly forget which games I own. Steam lets me look at all my games and discover them anew. There're games in my library that I don't remember the premise of and I can click Store Page and instantly get trailers, screenshots, descriptions, and now reviews. As for updates I would never get any for DRM free games unless they come with an auto-updater because I either never check back for them or I don't want to be bothered by going and manually doing it.

I don't mind the current DRM of Steam because I'm in a situation where it doesn't affect me. I always have internet and my computer can always handle the client running. But you're right in that for those who are affected by those things probably would be better off with DRM-free. But again that's all personal.

what advantages? there really arent many

only one I can really see as an advantage is no needing disks or installers, just log into steam and download what you want, but that only matters if I'm changing computers...

the rest is more annoyance than convenience to me(well some, the rest is utterly indifferent ex screenshots I'll never take) ex friendslist, trakcing playtime

Personally I used to find it weird too but after getting the Origin bundle I realised that I had these games permanently tied to an account - no more having to find game CDs ever again! And of course if you get a new computer you can just re-download all your games from Steam. So I guess the answer is pretty much one of convenience (for me at least)

A question... if I get the Multimedia Fusion 2 and decide to get a new computer, can I transfer that serial key to the new computer? What's the process for this?

How can I get the Multimedia Fusion 2 installer/download? I can only find the Demo and there's nowhere to redeem the key...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Go to your key page and select to download it. There are two files to download. The first has the installer and stuff while the other is additional objects to use in the games. When you extract both zip files into a single folder, double click on whatever .exe file is in there. The serial key for the game is on the bundle page too.

Does this help?

Yeah, dunno why I haven't looked at the download section of the serial key page. Sigh, too spoiled with steam keys, lol.
