Motherboard for Gaming PC

I want to start building/buying my own Gaming computer but am completely overwhelmed by the amount of motherboards there are.

In total, I want to spend about £600 on the computer and am wondering if anyone can recommend a motherboard, or series of motherboards that fit into that range.

Also, if someone could explain the different parts that would be very helpful.
