Do you have children's games in your steam library?
What type of kids' games are we talking about? Can you list some titles?

I just bought the lego harry potter game on the steam sale, my sister loves HP so I'm hoping she'll like that, and I probably will too. I also have both scribblenauts games, which again I like and I think she will too.

I mean, I enjoyed them when I was younger, the whole point of this thread I guess is seeing what people's opinions of the games are and who plays/doesn't play what (:

I love and own all LEGO games. So o recommend you buy LEGO Jurassic World when you can. It's the best one in my opinion.

I have kids, so naturally they enjoy playing games that are developed specifically for their age group.
I'm also very interested in developing games that incorporate education/training/skill building, so I try to accumulate games and software in this area for research and insight into what is currently available, what works well, and what could be improved upon.

Love this. The games I have my students play are okay, but definitely could be better.

I bought Lego Batman 3 just so my cousin can play it when he comes over.

you forgot about the age thing. some of us are old buggers which have kids at varying ages
Comment has been collapsed.
I was wondering about that too. I'm 25, and if I had kids they would certainly be allowed to play varying games in my library depending on their ages. I don't plan on having kids, but I love the steam family sharing thing etc

depends what you want. if you want interactivity improvement go for point and click. if you want to improve reflexes, go for action. if you want improve logic skills, go for puzzle, if you want competition skills, go for races. if you want a little of them all, go for adventure... let the kid decide if the game is good or not by itself. you just have to filter the content.
I myself never been into "kids games" even when I was a kid... I always liked what game can provide me (fun, skill, blah blah blah)
opinion based on myself... i don't have kids

I always wanted to play the lego games when I was a bit younger, but never did. Just bought my first one with the steam sale, I'm looking forward to it. Bought the scribblenauts unmasked one as well.

+1, and the batman one was pretty awesome too. I still have the CD's for them; unfortunately we had a family PC back then and it was so old (even for its time) that the graphics wouldn't even render and some levels wouldn't even show up

I bought Lego: The Hobbit when it went on a sale during the Summer event. Little did I know though, that the game refused to work on my PC qq

Oh nooo ): I haven't tried the lego one I just bought yet, I hope it works. Both of my computers are a bit old, I want to upgrade my graphics cards but I'm a bit strapped for cash.

I just found out one of the classes I'm teaching this fall is Minecraft modding. I like Terraria waaaayyy more than minecraft, I'm going to have to brush up lol.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's an after-school program for kids in 3rd-9th grade, classes vary from writing and maths to drawing and photography, and a heavy emphasis on coding, programming, modding, robotics etc. Over the summer there were full day classes, and I mostly taught writing and test prep, so I'm excited to be switching to more tech-minded classes.

Well, I own all LEGO games and they are the games I like most. But I don't believe they are kids games.

My favorite is LEGO Jurassic World. It's the best one so far in all LEGO games. The second one is LEGO Marvel Super Heroes.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'll have to keep those in mind if I like the HP one I just bought. I love Marvel <3
Comment has been collapsed.
Do you like DC better or are you just not into comics etc? I have always liked Marvel better, and the Marvel Puzzle Quest game (ftp on steam iirc) introduced me to a lot of cool characters I hadn't heard about before.
Comment has been collapsed.
Would be good if they had a demo version of LEGO Marvel. It's really a great game. Open world and lots of stuff to do. I suggest you watch some gameplay videos. You said you were thinking about LOTR or HP. I liked HP much more, but again I suggest you watch some videos. Either way, I hope you enjoy the one you end up getting. :)

Just saw that Jurassic World is still super expensive even with the sale. I wishlisted it though. Thanks again for the advice (:
Comment has been collapsed.
It's still expensive indeed. But since LEGO are the games I like most, they are the only ones I buy upon release. lol
You see others pre-purchasing Metal Gear or Mad Max and even though I do want them too, I can wait for a good sale. But with LEGO... I can't explain...
I even own them all on 3DS. :)

Oh no, definitely not stupid. They're often fun. I agree with you on Terraria vs Minecraft, but as I mentioned in a different comment, apparently I'm teaching a Minecraft Modding class in the fall so I guess I need to relearn how to play etc, haven't in years.

Nice class. Please doesnt think that i was talking to you directly when I said "stupid".; There is a lot of people who thinks that things for kids are simple and doesnt know the term "clear". I dont know how to explain myself, I'm thinin in my mothern language here. In english is basically "simple" too... but in spanish its a diferent word
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh I wasn't thinking you were saying that! I get the point. Like....fundamental, simplistic, but still good in their own way.

I loved lemmings and oregon trail, those are great. Maybe I'll have my students play Organ trail, since I have that on steam lol

Humongous Entertainment, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Mario, Pokémon, Scribblenauts. I hope to get Ratchet and Clank and Kingdom Hearts again at some point.
Reasons are nostalgia, or I just still think they're fun. Excluding Sxribblenauts, which I was already an adult for, but it looked fun to play around in.
Comment has been collapsed.
Same for scribblenauts, I got it on the DS when it came out (I think I was 21 or 22) and loved it, like the PC version even better.

DuckTales Remastered, Castle Of Illusion, Scribblenauts Unlimited... I really like them.
Comment has been collapsed.
I assume most people join those giveaways for nostalgia purposes and people want to play them again, or games like them.
I only played Pajama Sam as a kid, otherwise I mostly played games that you can't find on steam (Scorched Earth, Blue's Clues games, Diablo 1 and/or 2 with my brother, some Jump Start games, Petz 5, etc, except Civcity Rome which I have on disc anyway) but I probably wouldn't want to play anyway (except Civcity and Scorched Earth [which I can play on DOS emulators] out of that list lmao).
Edit: Of course this I'm just listing PC games. I mostly played handheld + console as a kid.

Well, I own a few, that I play mainly because they're relaxing. Between shooting anything that moves in Borderlands and murdering half of Europe's nobility in Crusader Kings, it's nice to just sit back and enjoy something like Millie :)

I love the pokemon games too, and also animal crossing is my guilty pleasure (:

ok, i looked, and i don't think i have any and that is not my type of games^^ the games i played as a kid were more RPG type, and i bought nowadays thoes games i played as a child, though they were not especially made for child. (not sure if i translated my thoughts correctly too)
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of people on this site did as well. (:

Own =/= Play.
I'm not sure if I own games you'd consider "children games" (that's pretty vague, to be honest), but if I do, I don't think I play them.
Really depends on what you consider children games.
Comment has been collapsed.
Right, I mean I left it somewhat vague on purpose. I know tons come in bundles etc, and I let my sister play a few but I've been a bit more invested now that I'm teaching. I'm thinking the ones that are geared towards children in an educational aspect, but also the ones that just tend to have a "kiddy game" stigma even if they aren't deserving of it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well... I own Tamper Tantrum from a past mass giveaway, and no way in hell am I playing it. :P
Therefore, my answer to the poll is "yes". However, "would I buy or play children games?" Probably not.
Comment has been collapsed.
I see you have approximately the same number of games in your library as I do in mine, so I'm assuming you also have a ton that are just like "I have this but it's just....there". lol

Last year I played Captain Claw forth or fifth time... If it isn't a perfect 2d platformer, I don't know, what is. Also Lego Harry Potter because it's Lego. And I'm going to buy Playstation 2 (yes - TWO), so come to me, all cool old plaformers...
Comment has been collapsed.
I still have a 2! It's at my family home though, I haven't brought it up - my girl and I just got a townhouse. Her parents are probably going to give us a 3, too, which will likely be exclusively for Diablo III.

I'm curious about how many people have kid's games and why. I have entered GAs for kids games and bought a few. I bought the ones that I loved to play as a kid, and some others that look interesting, for a couple of reasons. I have a little sister, and I let her play them sometimes. I also teach, and some of them have educational components, so sometimes I hook my laptop up to a projector and my students and I play together.
How about you?
