Nope, just getting badges.

They are likely holding on to them to sell them after they are no longer available. Hold on to them log enough, their value will rise. Really all it does is give you some Steam Level points, and a few Steam backgrounds/emoticons so pretty pointless, just some people go nuts with trying to level up Steam.

Like all other cards, you get a badge to show your friends you partecipated in these activities. If you don't care about that, there is still the market. You can't really sell a set on the market, and since the cards are readily available at the moment on the market I don't see how you could profit from trading the whole set instead of the single cards. In a far future, maybe...
