I've won giveaways and then been blacklisted by the person running it. and now there are some other ones with cryptic messages about auto joining scripts.

As I join manually how am I meant to be able to tell if it is a trap?

read descriptions and follow them if creators requires something, just that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Except that's against the guidelines (if a public giveaway) and can get the creator suspended if enough people file reports like they should.

report what, that the guy paying for the giveaway requests something like "don't spam my inbox with thanks" or "comment or get blacklisted"?

I think it's an iffy situation. I remember discussions about this years ago about whether not people should be allowed to apply personal rules to giveaways but I don't remember if it's allowed for public giveaways. Personally, I think it's a bit silly unless you have a really good reason for doing but, hey, they paid for the giveaway.

Requesting something for joining giveaways is against the guidelines, blacklisting has nothing to do with guidelines. You can blacklist whoever you want, whenever you want, with any reason (or without) you want and this is not against the guidelines or rules or w/e.

Rules state there can be no extra requirements to win. They don't say there can't be any requirements not to get blacklisted.

And now there are some other ones with cryptic messages about auto joining scripts.

Autojoining is against SG rules, but so is calling out. If they're claiming you're breaking a rule, then report them, which is what they should be doing if they suspect you're breaking a rule.

As I join manually how am I meant to be able to tell if it is a trap?

No idea what that even means. People blacklist people for any number of reasons - if you have a bad ratio, don't say thank you, spam the same comment in all their giveaways, wear yellow on Tuesdays, or have Mr Awesome as your avatar. Who knows.

Another common reason, especially for blacklisting winners is to give everyone else a chance and prevent the same person winning multiple items.

I have created some similar giveaways recently (same game but with different user levels) and received some repeated "thank you" messages in the same second. Then I wondered if they were bots or just people sticking "thank you" on all the giveaways they were entering. I have no way of knowing... since my giveaways started and are scheduled to end at the same time they should be appearing together on the people's wall.

The advice they gave me here when I started using the site was to never post "thank you" on anyone's giveaway (just long after I understood that this was just to avoid spam and that I should at least be polite and thank the giveaways I won u.u').

Anyway, for a second I almost put these users on my blacklist, but since I can not know if they are bots or not... well, they are still there.

I meant say thank you when you win.

I read the description and say thank you etc, so guess it must be that yellow shirt I wore last year?

me neither, seems like a test that makes no sense at all.

but you shouldn't post that since it's calling out.

Delete the links before you get yourself suspended.
And the user wasn't accusing you of anything.

You can always ask about it on the giveaway. In this case the Revelation giveaway had some chatter about the text.

How long ago was that win?

The calling out rule is really nebulous and regularly used to the detriment of discussion, but better be safe than sorry...
Whenever there's a chance of someone misinterpreting your reference of someone else or their statements as calling out, you are better of not doing it.

I am not calling anyone out, I was surprised at the blacklisting after my win 3 days ago, but that happened after the game key was sent/recieced and I said Thanks. Their reason for blocking is theier choice, it just seemed odd to do

I was more confussed over this block of giveaways that seem to designed to trap people, but I couldnt understand the hints in the text.

Back when I used to blacklist for ratio (I eventually stopped doing that in favor of either not caring or using SGTools), my winners were basically the only people I did actually check, so it could be just that, really.

My guess is your ratio.

I just use a mod that adds a "JOIN" button. Why should I be punished? I mean the website is already skimming for bots right?

It happened to me too, but I don't have third programmes. I usually join "invite only" giveaways, and I won one game of that type of giveaways, and got blacklisted. I think it could be because I'm a ghost who only joins giveaways, and didn't say anything in forums xD

you must say something a bot never would, such as "how do you do, fellow humans" or "i enjoy the visual sensation of this juvenile feline"

You really should not think to much about it. When you get blacklisted for the first couple of times you think what the hell did i do to these people. SG has one million user accounts, so a couple of BLs doesn´t mean you are a bad person. Everybody got some. You don´t have multiple or unactivated wins and no vac bans. It´s hard to imagine that you managed to offend people with 77 comments. And 12k entered GAs in 2 years does not seem like you´re using auto-join scripts. So what´s left, your ratio? Some may say it´s low but i don´t think so. You have given away games by yourself, most of them public and barly without restrictions. I have no script to check if you played your wins. Some people care a lot if their GA just ends up to be another +1 to someone´s library but if you get blacklisted right after the GA ends, then it´s for some other reason i guess. So relax, you can still use ESGST and hide your BL graph :D
