It seems to be a "thing" now, so... Tomb Raider, yay or nay?

well, is good enough, not particulary mind blowing, or deeply original. Good Bow-Shooter. a solid 7/10
so yeah, at $5, go for it

Decent enough game, especially at the sale prices it goes to. I just spent half the time laughing at the rediculous set of circumstances Lara found herself in though, she takes some real punishment in that game.

Why don't you guys check some gameplay or review on Youtube, instead of opening a topic about each game?

I was pleasantly surprised, loved every minute of it, can't say that about 90% of games personally.

Even though i felt it missed the elements of the original Tomb Raider games, i still enjoyed it a lot. Been wanting to do a 2nd playthrough.

Definite YAY.

I didn't like the old TRs very much, but I quite enjoyed the new one and am looking to the next one.

Just finished it last night. It was positively okay!

Bad: Re-select your save slot frequently. I had two game-breaking bugs and one hard crash. Because of the autosave plus campfire autosaves, I didn't lose much progress, but the first game-breaking bug was very disappointing -- probably rare though, didn't find hits for that one on the 'net (lots of hits for two others though).

Good/important note: You can return and get more collectables at any time (the game will warn you when you can't), and XP and Salvage are just enough (very well balanced/designed in this respect, I think). There is one area with collectables (near-ish the end) that you can not ever get to via Fast travel (you can return to it the long way), "Cliffside Bunker", so make sure you cross that one off your list apart from all the other areas that show up on the map if you're going for a 100% run.

Good: The tomb puzzles were nice, imho -- enough originality without being total brain busters. Many of them remind me a lot of Arkham City though.

Meh: Enemy AI is weird. Stealth is weird. Sightlines are weird. Noise is weird. Awareness is weird. Pathing is excellent. Aggressiveness is pretty nice.

Hmm: Skilltree and weapon upgrades are interesting but other than area-accessibility abilities, didn't feel like they made much difference (shooting a level 1 enemy with a level 1 weapon felt as strong as shooting a level 3 enemy with a level 3 weapon, basically).

Story's alright. Far better than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull anyway.

Recommended? At the current price, yeah, why not?

nay its so unrealistic that makes me puke (the new one). Enemy gets shot or hurt in the knee and after few second he gets up and can run... wtf? You hide on tree to snipe enemies with the bow in the darkness you kill one and other enemies instantly know where you are again wtf? Not to mention she did drop on part of metal and after 5 minutes she can run, what is she supermans daughter?.

Yeah and whats with Mario going to every little castle and not just going to the big one, fuck Mario games also, so unrealistic!

I wish games were as realistic as life also.

the point is that enemy that has hurt knee should crawl or shoot from laying position and not just get up and start running. Also when you shoot from tree with almost silent bow to enemy others should be alarmed looking in forest for enemy and not seeing you instantly its not so hard and in this days it should be standard. Also comparing retro game to present game is like comparing amish waggon to ferrari when it comes to algoritms and hardware you can use

You're kidding right? You can say that about 90% of games really....hell you can even say that about action movies, eh whatever, really lame reason to say a games so bad you wanna puke...

"Also comparing retro game to present game "

Yeah there are no new Mario games, right....

You just want games to all be realistic, that would make me puke actually, it would get me to stop gaming altogether actually.

that does not change the fact its sucks because of it as the 90% games you did mention dont forget it is not indie game but AAA huge budget project with team of devs and they can not do such simple things?

My head hurts, what are you trying to say exactly? I am really not getting it.

Plenty of AAA games are like this if that's what you're saying...

For the discounted price it's YAY! without a doubt.
Pros:

  • The atmosphere is the most amazing I've ever seen. (might be subjective, but the decoration on the levels, the authentic japaneese cultural design is pristine)
  • Solid story, solid gameplay, solid graphics. (the story could have been a bit less-unreal, but it does deliver)
    Cons:
  • Eyecandyness (is this a legit word, lol?) is a definite selling factor, which - for me personally - was a bit of a disappointment.
  • With just a tiny bit of effort at a lot of mechanics, this game could have been a truly unforgettable gem. Meaning: singleplayer: if the storytelling was just a bit more realistic, if they've added a real "stealth element" to the game (at least on bow gameplay). If the multiplayer would ran better, with more balanced gameplay, and without network issues.

TL;RD: Must have with discounted price, you could get it cheap from retail if the steam one is not on sale.

Just beat it, it was okay.

I would label is as enjoyable, but not particularly great or anything.
The story was very predictable, you'll guess who the bad guys are and what the plot is long before Lara or the other good guys do.

My biggest complaint is that when you alert an enemy, every other enemy in the entire area now knows exactly where you are, and they will never stop. There was an instance where I was on a floor above them and I could see the sparks where they were just spraying into the ceiling trying to hit me.
