I just recently started planning out a site too. I'm still evaluating which platform/framework/language to use. I'm so sick of re-inventing the wheel in vanilla PHP. I'm leaning towards a Java/Scala MVC framework. I might fall back on a PHP MVC framework because of familiarity. I'm looking to deploy on Google App Engine or Amazon Web Services. The alpha may run on a home computer. You all will be invited.

consider doing an HTML text/image based game on a website. Like the website IS the game. Write a half decent story and find a good Photoshop artist and just do it for fun.

If you don't know what to make a website about, I suggest you wait until an idea you're really passionate about comes to mind, rather than asking for suggestions from other people. You're more likely to actually complete it and keep it running in the long-term that way.

maybe something like steamtrades.com but better working...that site is just easy stupid forum, it needs better search functions or some database of games where you can choose your [W] and [H] games out of some list, what would make searching easier....maybe add something like wishlist and selllist (too many L's :D) ...I hope you know what I mean :)

Start making cool and useful programs with batch or visual basic. It's REALLY more easier than you would think and then tell about them, download links, install instruction links, behind the scenes of making something.
