you don't need a card , but you might need a verified paypal to do that

Theoretically it's a form of identification verification to prevent purchase abuse, and you just need a verified paypal account. The credit (or debit) card would just be a way of verifying the account.

It's not that you need a credit card to pay for your bundle, but many merchants require that Paypal accounts have a credit card as a backup payment method in order for them to be accepted for payment. Doesn't matter how much you have in your account, they want the credit card there as a form of verification and guarantee, probably because they've dealt with a certain amount of fraud in the past.

Now, here's a trick, if you have a debit card with a Visa, Master Card, or other credit card payment logo, you can use that to get around the restriction. You can also use a pre-paid credit card. They just need something to be there.

very thorough explanation, thanks. i think i'll sign up for a Visa with my bank, i just use plain old Electron to pay irl, would be a good excuse to get a card that can pay online, too.
