Some server drops and kickings happened during the free weekend. So you might had been caught in one of those. The game didn't run well to be honest, it wasn't prepared for a free weekend's amount of players.

All you had to do was join one of the full ones. Majority of the time I got into the full ones even though it such 32/32. Also bought this game cause I found it extremely fun.

I regrettably did not have a chance to play it during the free weekend. I thought it looked pretty good though and I hope another free weekend will be made available sometime in the future.

It's actually based on combat instead of customization. Even worse than not playing it, I bet he plays War of the Roses.

After more than 30hrs played I think that it's one of the best purchases I've done this year.
It's true that some clases are a bit unbalanced and that the archery system is a bit broken, but apart from that is an amazing game. The melee combat is the most accurate of all the FPSlashers around, and after the hitboxes were fixed it's very responsive.
It's true that is sometimes glitchy (most of the time due to lag compensation) and has an steep learning curve, but once you grasp the concept is great fun.
Moreover there's a huge patch being released this week with new maps and weapons.

Well... Actually, this is not PvKII, but Age of Chivalry mod remake. But in the original, there was much better made melee. BTW, have you tried Dark Messiah of M&M? Unfortunately, now the servers are closed, but back in the days, there were the best melee i have ever seen.

I played it a little bit and I now have no interest in buying it. I couldn't find any objective servers and I have almost no interest in duels, FFA, or KOTH. I also ran into a bug while doing the tutorial that required me to do it all over again. I think I'd rather just install age of chivalry and try to wade through the most likely empty servers there.

It may be worth it with a 75% discount.
Too many major flaws, most of them are down to the engine which means that it's highly unlikely that they'll get completed resolved.
I understand why they went with the Unreal Engine 3, but they really should have invested in something that actually works for what they are trying to do. As it stands, i regret buying it.

In my case, it was the other way around: most servers (even those located in my own country) were, for example, 17/18, but when I tried to enter the game told me the server was full.

Yeah, it happens that way too. I only try to join full servers for that reason.

I love it, but fk free weekend. I couldn't show the game to my friend because every server was full.. it was frickin overpopulated, servers were lagging etc. Thanks god it ended :)

I was hoping for a melee system as intuitive and fluid as the one I experienced in Dark Messiah, back then. The mechanics of the different slashes put me off a little, but later I became accustomed to them.
At times the combat gets a bit clunky, but all in all it's really cool.
What I find ridiculous, however, is that using an archer armed only with a short sword I was able to kill (repeatedly) my friend, who was playing an armored knight, even when he was using a tower shield. And he's not a bad player... it's just that the blocking system is not really fair on some 1 on 1 combats...

I dare to say that the problem with hit and block detection was on your end. It's difficult to connect swings at first, it needs a lot of practise to be honest. Hitboxes were fixed not a long ago.
I do agree though that the browsing is poor at its best, but I think that a new interface is coming this week with the next patch.

It's not on my end when I get damage from an axe that flew right by my character (I play with a 3rd person camera, so I can see that clearly) or when one of my axes goes straight through an enemy without damaging him. Those are the most extreme examples, but the melee combat was almost as unreliable. It could have been lag, but I was playing on servers with <100 ping, and at a time of day when there are fairly few people online.
Also, I forgot to mention that servers would often bug out, refusing to spawn me or to end a round.

That sounds like it's due to lag compensation. The servers have struggled through the free weekend, it's true that a lot of performance issues have been present.
And yeah, some of them were buggy. I agree on that.
EDIT: And I've always played in FP view, so I can't really tell. I'll try some 3P matches though.

Did you buy it or plan to do it in future sales? Were you let down by the game? I want to know :D
Personally, I felt rather dissapointed. I found the melee system to be way worse than what I expected, and I also thought that there was going to be a lot more people playing (some maps looked deserted). Plus, but this surely has to do with my current location and internet connection, ping was really high for most of the (open) servers I found.
