A below 10 GB game with no multiplayer capabilities sold as a AAA game, that s**t's just wrong in 2016!

Would you buy it if it was 30?

View Results
YES
Definitely NOT

no 30.. probably 20.. and even then 'd wait for at least a 33% discount from the 20 and the first major patch...

plain and simply put it appears to be an early access game released as a fully polished (delayed for 'extra polish'), when it is clearly not.

The installed size of No Man's Sky is 2.53 GB !! It's nowhere near 10 GB, I don't understand why they say it's 10 GB, it's not even 3GB.
And yeah, I would never buy a 60 EURO game if it has 2.5 GB, I feel I'm not getting my money worth. Some indies have bigger sizes than this.

procedural generation by nature keeps things smaller. its generated on the fly so the size can be kept small initially.

you should never judge a game on its size imo. pokemon go is only ~50mb and one of the number 1 played games.

yes, i 100% agree. especially for a $60 game it should have more content which would increase its download size, but just simply judging it off the size alone does not paint an accurate portrait. especially in the procedural generated games.

This kinda depends on what you find fun and enjoyable and what you personally believe what exactly 'multiplayer' means. Personally, I would buy NMS, but I'm poor and i cant afford a decent PC, NMS or a PS4 to play the PS4 version on. Not to mention the fact that they are working on fixing all of the optimisation issues.

I wouldn't buy it for 10€. The game looks very boring and grindy.

For this game the very top price would be 30€, but 20€ would be closer to decent. People expect a AAA game for a AAA price, and this is an indie game.

Don't judge a game by its GB's :)
Generally saying, not just for this one.

Sure but for this one judgement is legit. 50,40,30,20,10 GB game, 9 gb game..ok, but not even 3? For 60 bucks?
Ok so next installment of meat boy or limbo or machinarium will cost 60$.
Not judging the actual size alone...only in comparison with what it gives and what it costs.
I'm pretty sure people would have a problem buying this even at 30...can't count how many amazing CRAZY good AAA and indie games you could buy for 30 or less.

I think at the end of the day, I have an amazing game that I enjoy every second of it and here you are complaining about it.
I am not a fanboy, I agree, I was kinda disappointed, no online when the devs have been hinting multiplayer before release? really? not cool "hello games". I've also haven't seen a giant animals like the ones on the trailers. The biggest one i saw are floating whale, about my size.
Maybe I will find a giant animal someday in my travels, but the point of this post is.. don't like it? don't buy it, move on. go play call of duty or something... or keep complaining, whatever floats your boat.

But the maps (planets) are EXTREMELY BIG. I don't understand how they did this in 2.5GB.

They say it's because the way it is built. It creates content (planets, terrain) on the go. Which in all honesty if all of you who defend the size because of this it means that if the witcher 3 and deus ex human rev and gta V would've implemented this architecture then they would have still been as good as they are.

I do not understand the point of debating the price. It is up to the developer/publisher to decide what they believe their game is worth (and at what price it will sell the best while not undercutting too much) and in a same way it is up to the players to decide whether the game is worth the asking price. If it is not then they have an option to voice their opinion with their wallets (by keeping the closed).

I just fail to see where the number of people working on the game, size of the installation or the absence of multiplayer (am I the only one who remembers people bitching about devs/publishers trying to force multiplayer into every single AAA game just because?) come into this equation.

The only people who are ok with this title at this price are those to whom 60 bucks feel like 20 bucks..

I have always admired people who knew what everyone else is thinking.

Anyway, I am making $8K a year, so no, 60 bucks is not like 20 bucks for me. But I do not feel entitled to have everything the way I want and can wait for the price to drop and even better, for a sale to top it off.

I don't think the size of the game is important. Nor the lack of multiplayer, if the devs had been straight about it when trying to sell this crap.

The problem is that the game is just plain bad. Called it when they first announced it. There just wasn't enough there... It's large as an ocean and shallow as a puddle.

In all honesty it's a nice and calm puddle which should've cost 30 in it's highest of moments.

Just because NMS had Sony Publishing does not mean it was AAA, it did not have #s employee of the average AAA title. It had 15 total developers, how OP considers this marketed as a AAA is beyond me.You might as well call Cities Skylines AAA if you seriously thing No Man Sky is.

It's more like an indie title with the funding of a AAA one.

Until they release funding amounts no one knows this. There are 0 funding statements issued. Until they do you cannot say it even has the funding of a AAA game. Not trying to reign on the parade, just bring fact to fiction. We can all "think/believe" it got AAA funding but until numbers are revealed no one can say with certainty it was.

Eh ... worse games have been sold as AAA titles. Either way the concept was fairly flawed from the very beginning ... the procedurally generated universe was a token concept, but with 18 trillion planets and the statement that the ones you would actually want to explore (such as the ones in the trailers) being rare, we should've known that it was going to be boring.

Thank god there are games of small size! My inet connection is shit, and I don't got too much harddisk space either :/

Because it's mostly about procedural generation. Haven't you played Minecraft? The more you play it the larger the file size it gets.
Don't worry when you reach your 1,000th planet, the file size would be 500GB :P

Looks rather repetitive and boring as hell from what I've seen, but then again I have dumped 100 hours into Stardew Valley, so I'm not to judge.
