Got Sleeping Dogs gifted to me by a friend almost a week ago, only bad thing is he's from Germany so naturally it's the German version. I assume it's cut, but I have no idea how much. Opened a Steam support ticket back last Friday asking them about it, but I haven't heard from them yet, so came to ask around here - is it a cut version, how badly is it cut, and would support change it to the uncut version? I wanted to clear this up before playing it, and it's getting hard holding back from playing it

yes it is cut. Some finishers are removed, here you can see what is missing: http://www.schnittberichte.com/schnittbericht.php?ID=682024

Damnit. And from what I also managed to read, it hasn't recieved attention with patches and DLCs. I really hope support would swap it for the regular uncut version

Well I can't speak for that. I just know that I have no DLC access on the shop site of the game in Germany and I have even the uncut version. So my guess is that DLC is uncut and therefore not accessible from good ol' Germany but thid id just a guess. I wish you luck but I doubt they will really do it, else it also would change that you can gift uncut games to Germany and I would really hate that. But maybe you're lucky, I press my thumbs for you.

You cant play the dlcs because the game never got patched in its cut version. Even if you would find someone who would be willing to gift you the dlcs, the game wouldnt be able to recognize them.

You're fine if you own the uncut version, tho you will still have to find someone who would gift you the dlcs.

They won't. I've tried to convince them to swap my Orange Box games for the uncut versions, but they replied that they are not allowed to sell uncut games (or replace games for that mater) to customers in Germany, even if they could provice proof that they are 18+, because they aren't allowed by the Bundesprüfstelle.

So I contacted the Bundesprüfstelle and they told me that Valve would be allowed to sell uncut games in Germany, if only they implemented an age verification into the shop system.

Oh for the love of- I forgot to mention the most important part - I'm not from Germany myself so I thought they might swap it

In that case you might actually have a chance to get the game replaced by support ;)

I bought an UK copy of the Orange Box via Amazon (10€) and told the Steam support I wanted to replace my old German Orange Box with my imported version. Sent them a photo with invoice, DVD package and visible key and they replaced my old version with the uncut one. Just tell them you already bought a physical copy.

"Sollten Sie sich dazu entschließen, eine UK-/US-Version des Spiels auf Ihrem Account zu registrieren, so kontaktieren Sie uns bitte nach Erhalt des Imports."

I got cut version by an accident. I removed it from my account and then got normal ROW version. I recommend you doing the same.

Read the Community-Hub discussions from SD. Cut version is total crap, you cant use DLCs even the free ones, the version also isnt patched. That is a darned cheek, if you will pardon the expression.

I love this game and bought the uncut-version @gameladen.com, was cheaper than Steam and i personally never buy cut-versions from Steam, cause i am afraid that they arent patched...

Finally got a reply from them

"Steam Support cannot modify regional content or language restrictions."

What? That sounds like bullshit to me, I've heard of numerous people having their games swapped for an uncut ones. Sigh. If I persist they'll just close my ticket, won't they?
