Hello everyone!
I had a stupid idea coming up and i would like to know your opinion about it :3
I joined this great site about 1 month ago and even won 1 gift already. Being selfish as I am I wanted to win more. after looking around i found that poeple that actually won 100 gifts or more are in some kind of group. Some even "only for whatever language speaking members". I found that kinda strange maybe even somewhat discriminating. My opinion aside, i was thinking what is the best way for everyone to be able to join a group and give them a reasonable chance to win a gifts themself?

My stupid idea :3
What if someone (maybe me) were to create a group that would recruit 400 random members. Not caring about language, age or if this person has won more than 100 gifts, because everyone is equal to me! Every person has to give away 1 gift. Don't care whether it is an bundled game, dlc or not. All members would get 4 weeks to make the giveaway and gift the key. after the 4 weeks everyone would get kicked out of the group (somehow) and a 400 random poeple will be invited to do the same.

If a person was not to being able to start a giveaway in the 4 weeks he will be put onto some kind of blacklist and will not be able to join the group again. Next to that i was thinking maybe rewarding poeple that giveaway more than a certain amount of gifts, even though they just needed to gift 1 key. like letting them in for another 4 weeks? or a special private giveaway for those who gifted more than 5 keys that month?

conclusion?
I'm curious to hear your thoughts about this. Would this work? and most important... would you be interested to join such group. because without members making a group would be absolutely pointless :).

Thank you for reading this stupid and way toooo long story.
Have a nice day, peace.

Edit:
So after some discussing... i have come to the following conclusion:
If I were to create this group...

  • In the first week i'll be recruiting members (400).
  • In the second week all the 400 members have to create a giveaway (starts and ends in the 4th week).
  • In the third week all members that didn't create a giveaway get's kicked.
  • In the fourth week all giveaway's will be starting and ending.
At the and of the fourth week every member will be kicked.
All members that would like to join can join! there are no restrictions!

Sorry, but this seems to me that you are just looking for a hand out, a way to get a ton of chances at semi-low entry giveaways. As you being the leader would obviously be exempt from the kicking phase of your group.

I have 20 keys ready to giveaway for that group if necessary...
Next to that I did say i maybe would do create a group based on other opinions.

If this really is the idea poeple would get from such group i will refrain from doing so.

Edit: Think of creating a steam account with 0 games as owner of the group?
This would mean that the owner of the group won't be able to join steamgifts.

Nor is it mine, but misspelling that four times contrasted heavily with the rest of the description. As for your idea, it seems to me that there's no possibility of building any sort of community. So it's probably doomed to be full of leechers despite your counter measures.

There really isn't many other good counter measures, is there?
Except for the CV requirement.

Sounds similar to the "End of the month" giveaway group, just that at the end of the month everyone gets kicked.

And if you've got all the members create the giveaways for the last week of the month, you also have the "advantage" that all kicked members can't join the giveaways anymore (because they're forced to sync their SG profile).

It would also allow for a 1-week-recruitment phase, w/o the later members missing out on anything, since all GAs will be in the 4th week and accessible to all.

If you're doing it like that, then that sounds fun and fair, I'd say.

im sorry to say this but this idea probably wouldnt work well....
"400 random members" that would just invite leeches :/

sure there may be some potential 'gifters' but just how many of the "400 random members" are willing to gift?
which is probably why most private giveaway groups have CV requirements

Correct, but leaving people out because the don't have enough CV is kinda...
I just don't like that idea... but i get your point!

as Suits and rookieronin already pointed out, you might have to deal with leechers, but if you're really going with a "all giveaways have to end at the end of the 4th week" then your schedule could look like this:

week 1: invite users
week 2: all users have to create their giveaways that end at the end of the 4th week
week 3: kick all users in the middle of week 3 that did not create a giveaway (just make sure it's more than 7 days before the giveaways start, so they have to sync their profile).
week 4: giveaway time, some happy users, some users QQing that Fortuna screwed them.
end of week 4: kick all
week 5: go to week 1

just take into account that checking if all 400 members actually did create a group giveaway can be very time consuming.

I have lots of time :), so don't really find that a problem.
That really is a good way of dealing with them indeed! I'll consider it!

Might be worth checking with support if breaking group rule of creating giveaway is valid reason for reroll. That would save you massive amounts of time.

Reroll for what exactly? and how does it save me time? :P
As you know im quite new to steamgifts and might not now everything.

Thanks for the tip anyway!

My bad, reroll is common name for "request new winner" on finished giveaway page.
Giveaway creator may request for selecting new winner of his giveaway, however he must present a good reason for this (ie winner already has game on his account). Each request is approved or denied by support staff, based on reason, so you should ask them if giveaways for yours group can be rerolled if winner hasn't created giveaway for the group. If the answer will be yes, than it's up to giveaway creators to check their winners whether or not they created giveawawy for group.

Before anyone will be able to join a giveaway they first have to make a giveaway :)
They will be kicked if they don't make a giveaway in time and thus won't be able to enter.

This idea looks great (after several corrections mentioned by other users), but I see another problem. What about the people (semi-leachers) who only create one giveaway with very cheap bundled game (like Alien Shooter) and who want to join the group only for better giveaways created by other?

Yes, to think about it... I could chance the rule that people just have to get non-bundled game to giveaway? but that... is excluding people from the group who might just not have the money for a proper game. I'll think about it though.

Bump! :3

I still have a few questions!

  1. Should i create a rule that everyone has to give away a non-bundled game.
  2. Should i create the group with a steam account with 0 games? (If i were to create with this account i can add giveaways and possibly even reward people who gave away more than for example 5 keys)

Thank you everyone for commenting!

seems like you are keen in making a giveaway group so i shall help advice in what little way i can :)

  1. you could make a rule for everyone to make a non-bundled game BUT non-bundled game usually cost more than a bundled game and some people might not have enough funds to create none-bundled giveaway....

  2. i just dont see why you cant create a group with your current account :/
i dont think it really changes anything

And good luck with the group, i might be interested in it though

Hey,
Well... Im still thinking about it.
I'm not sure if there are actually 400 people interested in this.

  1. Yes i was thinking that too, but that would create semi-leechers as baskiapollo mentioned.
  2. People might see me as a leecher? I would like to prevent such thing ;) even though i will be adding giveaways.
An idea that popped into my head. What if i were to say: someone has to give away 1 non-bundle game or 4 bundled games / dlc? (that wouldn't really solve the problem, now that i think about it)

Thanks! I appreciate your input :D
