I doubt it will go on sale in the near future since the game still only is in alpha stage

If you have the means to, get the Steam app on your smartphone/iPod as it'll notify you when items on your wishlist go on sale.

Trading for it on Steamtrades is a good suggestion that was already mentioned, but adding it to your wishlist and having Steam notify you is another good way to not miss sales. There's also isthereanydeal.com, which can email you whenever something on your Steam wishlist goes on sale, but not just on Steam, which is nice.

The more I read the post, the more I thought it would go the wrong way.

Usually I would suggest Is there any deal? but when you click on it you can see Rust is currently only available via Steam Store, so as others have suggested you can just add it to your wishlist. Thought I would drop the link nonetheless because it's a useful site you can use to manually look up deals or create a watch list.

If you don't have trading keys you can try the russian site www.plati.ru. Just make sure you buy a REGION FREE / ROW copy! I got mine for 11$.

Put it on your wish list, at least if its one sale on Steam you will get an email telling you.

Use the notification system on www.cheapshark.com, it's very efficient.
You just search for RUST, then click the button.

Rust Can Be Easily and i mean Easily be found on steamtrades for 5 KEYS each
so you can get two copies one for you and one for your sister
with 10 key .. which well make it nearly 22$
