Well Playdota bot gave out 1800+ keys or (5400+ total invites if you include extra gifts).

So is this a sign of open beta coming soon (March maybe?) or its a Valentine's gift from Valve?

PS: Quite happy that this massive wave happened. Too much hoarding was occurring. Atleast now the invites are worth less than 20$ or equivalent in game trades.

I hate it when a multiplayer game that I play gets more players. That sucks so bad!!!

and isn't that it is more preferred that MP games have lots of player, because if not, the mp game will die out.

The reason this happened is because the bot was handing out keys the minute that playdota started having server problems.

So you mean this wave was an error? I doubt it.

They also allowed more people to the draw it seems. Used to be December a while ago if I remember right.
"All accounts created before 02/12/2012 are now eligible for the draw."

From www.dota2.com : Our server deployment team has spent the last few months flying around the world setting up new server clusters to increase that capacity.
They are giving out more keys for the simple reason that they can.If valvE had the servers to sustain 100.000 people be sure that they would release 100k keys.Anyway,if you do get a key don't expect a perfect gameplay. They are still working on implementing all the heroes from Dota 1,and resolving major bugs. The matchmaking system is next to none, they just group together 10 players, regardless of skill. The one thing that is taken into account is the region.
L.E:Valve is saving up money using this method.Insead of hiring ~25.000(current people playing)beta testers and keep them on the payroll, they can make the whole Dota community the beta-testing team.

Why can't they make a users machine as a host machine like it was done in CS, TFC and etc? Heck even original DotA on warcraft 3 was hosted on hosts machine.

For the matchmaking skill.. on servers not controlled by Valve it would be easy to cheat the system

It's better this way.Dota 1 had many cheats(maphack, trade hack, etc).By keeping the whole game server-side it's harder,or impossible to create hacks.

matchmaking work but not so well right now because there are max 20k players online divided in 3 region and because ofc it's a beta and they are still improving it.
Basicaly you should have a skill level from 0 to 4000 and you start at 1000, 2000 or 3000 based on what you select at the beginning.. the fact is that before pairing similar skill level it will search players with similar number of game played... and ofc with 0 games it's a real pain but it start to be better after 100+.
When we will have many more players and when they will play atleast 100+ games things will go better for all of us I belive.
PS: I'm in beta since there were about 100 players online ( early September )
