No, i'm not begging. There's actually a GA at the end for your troubles.
Just want opinions for First World Problems, lol. :)

I could make 3 separate threads for 3 different polls (might still do that later just for the polls, but for now i'll leave a poll for the mouse only).

This is also gonna be a long read, no way around it, i'm afraid. So... sorry about that.

And especially... thank you if you did bother to stomach reading it and trying to help out.

But try not to throw something random out. It's ok if you feel you're even less informed than me... and thus, inform me as such.

Regardless of the poll for the mouse, first and foremost, because a graphic card i really must get, as mine got busted:

  • 1) The Graphic Card (skip to the end - already bought it)
My GeForce GTX460 went belly up (FML), so i need a new graphic card. Running a spare GeForce GTX285 temporarily, till i get a new one.
My budget is highly preferably somewhere inbetween 100-150$ (roughly 90-130€ / 65£-100£). Obviously it's a rough estimation of the budget, but don't really want to go crazily above, especially for little performance improvements. May consider pricing above, if there's significant bang for my buck.
Here's a few suggestions i received (store links are just for reference, as i can probably get them cheaper on another merchant, i just happened to find them all more easily in that merchant, that's all)...
Feel free to hit me with different ones and why, or to explain why you'd go with any of the following:

EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB-

HIS Radeon R9 270 2GB IceQ X²-

Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB-

Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X OC-

MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V-

As a sidenote, my brother is running a GeForce GTX 780 Ti (which is quite expensive, as at least 1 or 2 of the suggestions above i received). How much better is its performance, in your opinion when compared to the likes of say, a GeForce GTX 750 Ti? Worth it?

  • 2) The Mouse
Well, first i want a mouse that's cunfy, because big-ass-mofo mouses are not my thing, they get really uncomfortable pretty soon, pretty fast, in my past experience. My hands loathe big mice almost as much as they loathe gamepads.
Secondly... a little of a touchier subject... :/ That is also of vital importance to me... i've got pretty sweaty palms... Yeah, yeah, go ahead and crack some TMI jokes :P (or you can always make suggestions to alleviate the issue if you happen to have same issue, i'm all ears).
And... it really, really shows in summer time / moist pre-summer time. Yesterday (knowing this) i had just washed my hands with cold water before sitting down to play, 5 mins into playing CS and i was already sweating like god knows what. Ugh... :/
This is my current mouse, a Logitech MX500. Don't get me wrong, it's cunfy, it's definitely not bad, it did its job... for the most part... but it's pretty outdated, slightly mistreated, and the perspiration issue was always aggravated on this mouse, due to its surface. So when considering suggestions, consider my perspiration issue as a really important factor, if you are aware of the kind of surface the mouse you're suggesting has, that is.
Here are some suggestions i received:

Corsair M65 Series

Logitech G502 Proteus Core

Razer Deathadder

Roccat Tyon

Razer Naga Epic Edition

SteelSeries RAW

Mionix NASO 7000

Logitech G402 Hyperion Fury

I have to say of the top3 most suggested out there, i was more inclined to the Logitech G502 or the Razer Deathadder, for different reasons. Also, because i'm not a fan of the inbuilt mouse acceleration of the Corsair M65 (my brother has one, and i don't really like it, but never really tried to get used to it or configure it differently than he has). And as far as to my knowledge, it's not an issue with the G502 or the Deathadder.
Biggest point of contention with the G502 is... it looks kinda big. Dunno if it's not as big as it looks, which would make it a non-issue. Looking (merely looking, yes) at the surface of the two though, i feel more inclined to it than the Deathadder. The Deathadder looks like it would be really cunfy... but also looks about as plasticky as my MX500. :/
I've heard some mice have some anti-sweat surfaces, but know very little of it, so if you know anything about this, that would help as well. :)

As a sidenote, could've included the Logitech G302s...

  • 3) The Keyboard
I've also just about had it with my keyboard for many reasons.
I've got a cheap run of the mill membrane keyboard that sometimes urges me to break it in half...
The damn key pressing sensitivity is so damn low, i find myself tapping Ctrl key accidentally often, which is innerving on certain games, especially on CS:GO / League of Legends. Despite the fact that i've been barely playing any of the two in the last months, part of the reason hinges on the keyboard and mouse. Crouching when you're not supposed to on CS is not exactly a bundle of joy in a duel, and having Ctrl pressed when trying to get abilities / actives off on LOL in a trade / teamfight / all-in / what-have-you is sometimes even more innerving.
As above, with the mouse, the too plasticky-flat touch of the keys makes the perspiration issue also aggravating. :/

So, i was considering, after a few suggestions from friends, a mechanical keyboard. Problem is...

A) Even after having read some info on them, i'm still clueless to what's better over what in terms of gaming experience. I've seen reviews saying that reds and blacks are better for pure response time and browns and blues better for double tapping. I've seen some people say browns are the best overall, but nothing to substantiate this, so don't know the reasoning.
Since i'm mostly worried in getting the most of them on a MOBA (here i think the keyboard is more important in a MOBA than on an FPS), double tapping is not really something i want, if by better for double tapping they mean to say an accidental double tapping might happen. Definitely don't want to have more Lee-Syndrome than needed, for one, that's for sure. And if better response time, means not having to deal with some abilities not going off (as if i din't really press the key that i know i did), as it happens every now and then with the damn crap keyboard i have (even if i'm not accidentally pressing Ctrl, i mean, obviously).

B) I have no idea which options to look at in terms of keyboards (and if at all mechanical is the way to go for me, for that matter). All i know... is they all seem to be mofo expensive. :|
So if you happen to know the cheaper / more cost-effective ones, please prioritize those. :)

TL;DR:

Thanks, really? :/
Ok, here's a forced GA.

EDIT: Got a 750 Ti at a cheaper price than usual for the graphic card (still better than the 460 i had, so... works for me, without having to overspend). Now for the rest.

To be honest, and I am new to PC gaming and have no idea about shit, I wouldn't go with the GTX750. I have one and I already see that it's slowly becoming outdated by game requirements. Go at least a notch higher to a 760 or 660? Can't remember.
Make sure not to buy new hardware a few months after this one.

I, too, dislike big mice so I'll just suggest the one I've been using for a long while now: A4Tech X5-70MD. Well, I don't think you'll be able to grab this exact model since it's not being made anymore, but they have several alternatives that are really similar to that one. Why would I recommend this? Well, it's tiny, it has a thumb grip on the side (which will likely help you with your sweat problem), it's durable (I've had this for like 4 years now), and it's cheap as hell (I paid like 8$ for it).

Looks cunfy, that's for sure.
The thumb grip on the side, would probably not help much, though.
My palm is the sweatiest part of my hand, and the way i place my hand on the mouse, i barely even touch the thumb grip with my thumb to be honest.

But thanks for your input, nonetheless. ;)

I recently upgraded the heart of my system, my GPU will be next. Once Nvidia and AMD release their new cards fully, I will be looking to upgrade. I wouldn't recommend dropping a lot on a card atm, as prices should be dropping soon.

I am running a 750ti 2gb card, absolutely love it so far. Have not found a game I cannot play yet.

I use a Steelseries MMO/Gaming mouse, have had it for years and absolutely love it so I can't speak on the ones you have listed. However from gaming friends talk, I can tell you that the entire Razer line has fans in the people I know. I will be looking at getting a Naga, I love having the ability to hotkey to my mouse as much as I want...maybe it's an addiction. I blame playing a Warlock in WoW for years.

For a gaming keyboard, I am in the same boat as you are with never having used one before, and to be honest will probably go with Razer for their Black Widow. I've heard Turtle Beach can be good for the price, but I have never liked anything I have got from Turtle Beach. Just a company I have had back luck with in the past.

I think the Chroma version is $170. Got it around holidays last year. There's also a more portable tournament edition and the regular without Chroma for less if you don't need lights or a numpad.

Well, the 750 Ti is 1/3 of the price of my brother's 780, which in itself is a big plus.
To be perfectly honest, even my GTX 460 was running everything more than adequatly, haven't had fps drops in anything, since i got it. Can't say the same about the 285 i'm stuck with, atm. Even though it quite surprisingly runs everything, i've had noticeable fps drops here and there. Enough to be annoying, on one or two occasions.
I should look into the news of possible price reductions though, i guess i can stomach the 285 for a bit more, if it's to happen soon.

As for the Steelseries, it's mostly the same problem of my MX500 that i fear. Super-smooth plasticky surface that i imagine doesn't help one bit with perspiration. I don't doubt it's cunfy. I fear the same in the Naga though, even more so than in the Deathadder. The Deathadder is indeed talked up by just about anyone, especially pro-gamers, that is true.

exits the tunnel and is now at the thread

Well, sounds like it's been a rough go for you lately with the public giveaway and the GPU. No worries; life will go on and get better. :)

Regarding GPUs, I've only ever had Radeon cards and have absolutely loved them. When I moved into the newest generation I looked at many of the R9 cards. In fact, I looked at the exact R9 290 you have listed. The thing about these cards is you need to have quite a large case to not only accommodate the card but also leave enough room around it for airflow and temperatures. I'd also recommend a hefty PSU for these cards. While they say they need between a 450-600W depending on other components you have, I'd go above this for sure. During game play the fans will rev up and draw more power. If you stick around their listings you'll really put your PSU to work and it can have an impact on the life of both components. In the end, the R9s are great. I love mine and run every game (including GTAV) on ultra settings.

I just use a standard mouse and keyboard, so I'm really no help there.

Good luck to you! :)

Thanks for your feedback (and wishes :P, no worries, it surely will... i hope :P).
The case size is obviously a factor indeed, but i've taken that into account. My case should be able to accomodate what was listed above and most of what is out there. :)
The listed R9 is still slightly above what i was considering spending, it's a matter of judging the difference of performance against the cheaper (or more expensive) alternatives.
I'm not eager to get the top of the line card out there, i find that in all my years of experience the cost/benefit of going for the top notch card never ever pays off, but i definitely prefer to spend a little more for something that lasts a lot longer than something that costs a little less and lasts a lot less.

So i'm definitely looking for the best price / performance ratio i can get out of the card.

1) That's a tough choice, the cards you listed have a massive price difference, the 970 alone is over 3 times the budget you wrote ^^ Still if you can afford it, I'd got with the 970, if you want to spend less 280x or 285 (soon to be rebranded as 380). I'd avoid 750ti and the 270 too old too weak.

2) I've the g302, I love it but if you can choose I'd go for the g502, if you have a tech store nearby try it in store and check which mouse fits you better :)

3) I have no idea about keyboards to be honest, the cheapest mechanical keyboard I know (and that should be good) are the cm storm ones, but I don't know not much more about this topic ^^ (I'm using a logitech k120 bought for 12€, yay XD)

1) Well, i listed the 970 merely because if someone were to tell me that it would still be one with the best price / performance ratio, because it would last like 3x the time of the others... Which i'd find hard to believe, but i'm so misinformed about hardware for a while now, that i couldn't put it past the possibility... Affording it is not really, really an option. So, i could have left it out, but still wanted to hear thoughts about how high the difference in performance vs pricing really is.
Conflicting opinions on the 750 Ti so far though. How would you stack it vs a GeForce 460 GTX, for instance?

2) I've heard really good things about the g302 as well, even read someone say it was almost as good as the g502 (but i can't for the life of me, find that info anymore). Will definitely consider testing the feel though, if i can in a nearby store.

3) I'm in the same boat, clueless. :)

Thanks for your input! :)

oh you're welcome!
1) Well I don't know how it stacks with a gtx 460, but it's quite weak sadly, I did find this benchmark:

http://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/1790-nvidia-geforce-gtx-960-game-fps-benchmark-review/Page-2

And the difference with even a 270x is remarkable, I'll stick suggesting the 280x/285 maybe you can focus more on the gpu rather than on keyboard and mouse :3

I bought a GTX 660 roughly a year ago, and now I regret it feeling it's already outdated, I am a far cry from maxing some games. I recommend you don't buy something strictly required for topping what you want to run, a little overkill will ensure you get a consistent and enjoyable gaming experience for the next one or two years.

As for the keyboard, I've been for ages using a basic Microsoft keyboard and it's awesome, surely a great gaming keyboard would be better, but budget-wise the classic Microsoft keyboard is the best.

Hmmm, considering GeForces have a history of doing that, is the GTX 660 inferior to the GTX 460?
Because i had a 460 and well, it's not like i tried heavily to max everything, but can't remember the last game that wasn't already maxed by default and running smoothly.
Which games do you notice issues in? GTA V? Witcher 3? Or something else? I'm asking because i have none of those 2, so couldn't possibly know...

I'm talking about the current most hardware demanding games. GTX 660 is the recommended graphics card for GTA V, for example. The hidden clue about a graphics card being recommended is that it does not max out the game. I did not purchase GTA V yet, I guess it would run fine though (obviously not on a 4K screen but I don't want that now)

EDIT: Nope, 660 is better than 460. 760 is slightly better than 660.

What I mean is that if you buy a 660 or equivelent card now, next year you'll probably have a wide array of games that you'll be able to play, but you won't get the absolutely best experience. If you're ok with average, choose 660 or 760 (or ATI equivelent, but I prefer Nvidia).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, i don't really need the absolute best.
95% of what i need to run should run with those (i also prefer Nvidia, btw).

Also, since my brother deals with higher-end stuff and usually (when he does upgrade) i get his scraps for a bargain, i definitely don't see the need to go for extremely high-end GPU.

As for the keyboard, about a year ago I bought myself this lovely piece of hardware with brown keys and red backlight. the best thing is, it's rock solid and doesn't take up 20m² from your desk. but the keyboard is quite tall, takes like 1-2 weeks to get comfortable.

At the moment I'm using a Steelseries Diablo III mouse which is technically the same as the Sensei RAW, just with a different looking wheel and design. Can't complain, it does it's job very good, it doesn't distort your mouse movements like some other mice do.

Did you notice any strain? Or when you say it takes 1-2 weeks to get comfortable, you mean more as getting used to it, for being so different?
Also, pricing seems to be about 90€. Sounds right?

Do you also have any opinion about the whole brown/blue vs red/black switches (not the key colors)?

And thanks for the input. :)

No didn't notice any strain, more like getting used to it.
I paid about 100€ last year, so 90€ sounds alrighty.

I personally wouldn't use blue switches because they are very loud because of that clicking they do. I like the brown ones more than red/black because you have a tactile feedback when the button is pressed, which you don't with red/black.
This might help you if you want to know more about the switch-types you don't even need to read the whole article. The pictures say alot by themselves.

All of those mouse looks like they would accumulate grime on the surface. Knowing that you have sweaty hands and from experience mouses with smooth surface gets dirty pretty fast with dirty grimy residue.

I would recommend this it has really high quality materials and it's cheaper than all of the mouse you have listed. I've used this mouse for a while and it does not attract any dirt (or maybe I just don't see it). It has multiple setting that you could choose and a wide range in dpi settings. Aesthetically you have multiple colors to choose from in terms of the LED. You could change the color through the program and have it match your computer. Personally I think Razer is just expensive because it has the Razer logo on it and they use cheap materials so it's a waste of money.

Thanks for the alternative, always nice to find cheaper alternatives, especially alternatives people feel get the job done as efficiently as the most talked up and some times hyped up ones.

I've got the Deathadder, but if I had to choose now I'd definitely go with G502. It's true that the Deathadder has a feel of plastic and it's very light (Well this depends
on the preferences of the each individual user) but it's super comfortable and it sure is not fancy and shit but practical. After all you don't need tons of macros on
you mouse for LoL or CS:GO.
As for the keyboard, if you consider spending a considerable amount of money go for a mechanical one. The feel is nowhere near the membrane one and it's definitely worth it.
Now about the key types, it's personal preference again. I'd go with the Red or the Brown ones (because they are "silent" compared to the others) but it's completely up to you
to choose. I wish I helped even if it's a little bit :)

I'm definitely more fearful of perspiration issues that might come back to bite me if i spend too much on a mouse... or if it's uncomfortable after a while. And i definitely don't need tons of macros, that's true. I don't even like the inbuilt mouse acceleration that some have, for instance.

The money expenditure on the keyboard is the problem, no doubt about it. It's just so frustrating feeling like your keyboard hinders your gaming experience. :/

As for reds / browns being more silent, any other confirmation on the rest of the info you feel you might give vs the others, since i gather you have one? Like for instance, what is said about response time, etc.? And also, if you do have one, how much less prone to key-pressing accidentally are you?

And you certainly have helped, thanks! :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I've got the Corsair K-70 with MX Red switches. The response time makes no difference IMO. The difference is in the feel.
Pressing a Blue one or even a Brown will have a clicky feeling. I really don't know how to explain this (especially when English is not my native language ^.^ ) . We can say that on the Blue and Brown ones you've got a feeling of feedback that you pressed the key while on the Red ones you don't.
Then there is the noise the keyboard makes. Brown and especially Blue ones are kinda loud (you can check Youtube videos to get a clue of what I am talking about) If you prefer your keyboard as silent as possible Blue keys are not the best choise.

In the end all I can say about the mechanical keyboards is that they are worth it. It's been some time since their release so the prices kinda dropped plus there are tons of options (Whether you judge them based on quality or price)

Well, i explained the reasons why i left the 970 in there, it was more to get a comparison of how significant the performance increase was (for those who happened to know by first hand experience), i also said the $100-$150 budget was a rough estimation. :)

I also feel the R9 270X might indeed be a good choice, i still carry a bit of an old prejudice against Radeons though. I know their reliability is miles above what it was when i first started carrying said prejudice, but i'm sadly a bit of a creature of habit when it comes to pc specs. I'm still reading up a bit more on in-built mouse acceleration and some myths around it, but i was never a fan of that.

But other than that (which may not even be a determining factor), seems like a really good alternative, especially considering the price. Thanks for this. :)

It's a bit rugged, but honestly it's extremely comfortable because of the molding. It does work better for large-handed people, though, and I don't know if there's a left hand version. You can change the DPI and even the acceleration, and I tend to play more rpgs/rts/strategy games in general than any other type so that helps with quicker control. I like that there are switches right above the thumb rest for quick-access to skills or status screens. There's even a button above the mouse which can be changed to a variety of functions. Up to 3 profiles can be stored, though honestly I only use 2.

Hmm, just noticed this on the Q&A section on Amazon:

Q: How does this feel in the hand? Cheap? Sturdy?

A: it felt a bit cheap when it isn't loaded with weights, but then again i like heavy mice. The plastic i feel should be less glossy and more of a matte finish. The heat from a persons hand tends to make it feel sticky over time and I'm constantly readjusting so there's a bit more glide between mouse movements. The material on top of the mouse would be a better replacement to the plastic right palm side. The mouse wheel feels a bit odd and stiff to scroll, but i believe it'll go away once it's more broken in. The mouse is pretty nice and is wide enough that my hand can comfortably hold it. I still need some further time with it though to see how it is in the long run of gaming. Still it is a pretty nice mouse though for the price.

Not sure i'll be going want it, knowing it is an issue for me. :/
Thanks again, nonetheless, it's always good to know what else is out there that someone has tried.

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, my experience is almost the exact opposite:) I like the grippy rubberized material where my thumb rests, and don't find the mouse getting that hot. I only use one weight.

Does this person mention what kinds of gaming they do? It's possible that it needs to be adjusted between FPS and other types of games, which is actually what the mouse is meant to do:) I also am curious how long the person has been using it. It took me about a week to get used to the mouse but now it feels like I've always been using it and I've been a pc gamer for over 20 years.
Ultimately it's your decision and if there's more expensive you feel would be worth it, then go for it and I wish you happy gaming for many years. Slàinte!

Well, could be that this person just has the same issue as me. For some people, high palms perspiration (which to me only happens when gaming, mind you) is a real bother. :/
It's just one opinion on the Q&A obviously, but considering my fear, i might just opt for something i feel is a safer bet for a little more money, but then again, it could always backfire horrendously.
First time i looked at the Deathadder, for instance, i was under the impression it was super glossy, when it's actually the opposite (awful picture to look at, i guess).

Either way, i'm gonna try a change, see if it pans out, let's see, still waiting on info on pricing from here and there. :)

For my mouse, I like to use a Razer naga because I like to play a variety of games including MMOs, (Which having a Razer Naga to play MMOs is almost manditory for me now) RTS, FPS, etc. A Razer Naga is ideal for MMOs (Guild Wars 2, Tera, etc.) where you have over 10 abilities that you have to use and it works decently for me with other games. I don't really like the mice that specialize in FPS games because I do not always play shooters and they make it harder for me to play other types of games. (Mainly because they don't have the twelve buttons on the side that I have grown so accustomed to.)

Therefore, the main reason I like the Razer Naga is because it works decently for most genres. (For me at least) However, since you stated that you would prefer one that specialized in FPS and/or MOBA games, it might not be the right mouse for you.

Also, thanks for the giveaway. :D

Yeah, i don't really need the added tons of macros. I get that it probably does help a lot on MMOs, etc. - i've also seen reviews stating that the Naga is the weapon of choice for most MMO players. :)

On an FPS/MOBA you mostly want (imo) the mouse to be precise and comfortable, although the precision is mostly for the FPS, as i'm more concerned about the keyboard when it comes to a MOBA. :)

Thanks for your input anyway! :)

If you are not married to Nvidia as I am for GPUs (bought a shield tablet) then the 270x is a good card, but the 300 series will be out by the end of the month hopefully. and the 960 is a bit underwhelming even if it is almost as good as the 280X

Graphics card - I'd go with the GTX970. Reason mainly because I have the MSI GAMING 4G version and it never failed me on any game (to go max) so far. Including GTA V which is the latest game I've bought so far.
Mouse - I think it would be best to go out and feel the mouse for yourself. Being a 'worldy' gamer there is just that certain mouse that is right for you and no matter how pretty and well advertised a mouse is, it won't actually matter if your hand doesn't feel at home with it. So for that, it would be best to feel first before buying. My only suggestion is to NOT go with the Razer DeathAd mainly because I have one myself and it has often times disconnected by itself mid-use at very random times. Imagine a CSGO match where I suddenly lose control over my mouse in the middle of a fire fight. Apart from that - You might want to try looking at the Sensei Raw from Steel Series.
Keyboard - Cataclysm. Or. Steel Series Apex Raw. If you're the type that likes to have his macros steady on hand. I don't use them myself but it makes my desk look pretty nice. I'm using the Apex Raw myself, see.

Good luck on finding the right gear for yourself! I was on the hunt myself not too long ago for the same parts. And most likely I will have to be again., lol

Thanks for the input.

I might not go that overboard on the graphic card, we'll see.

I agree with you for the most part on the mouse, mainly the reason why i've been so hesitant. But narrowing (or enlarging depending on possible hidden gems) my possibilities first, felt like the way to go, don't know. Weird about the DeathAdder though, don't think i've seen people have that issue before.

What's the price tag on the Apex Raw, if you don't mind me asking?

Roughly around 50 USD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823239023
If you want something more easy on the pocket then you can go with this bundle which has both a KB and a mouse.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823129032 - I'd buy this one myself on a tight budget. This one is red but there is also a blue version out there.

Regarding the DA problem, I believe there are 2 DA revisions. The old one seems to have that problem. The new one, though, I am not sure. But that was the point of the new revision of it coming out.

Well, those are still membrane keyboards as far as i know, so they key-pressing issues would still be a problem for me.
Just went and confirmed it, but thanks nonetheless.

Get a graphic card that can run your game on the highest setting. However, don't get a graphics card that can run almost every game on the highest setting.

Yeah, even if i eventually go for W3 (which i've been shying away from, because i still want to finish 1+2), according to some feedback i got from a few friends, i don't really need the best graphic card out there to ruin it pretty well. I have a friend with a 760 that runs it pretty decently, just not on Ultra with 60 fps... which i don't really need to either, to be perfectly honest.

Even just running it on medium is fine for me. The only reason game devs make stunning looking games is because kids whine about the older games looking like dog poop. Don't think that i have anything against good graphics though. I adore them

Sorry, I really don't know how to help, the least I can do is give a bump...

I was in your situation few weeks ago, searching for mouse and keyboard; at first I thought "I'll go for a mechanical keyboard!", but the prices stopped me, it wasn't worth it.
(not for me at least)

In the end I bought this, the cheappest I found among gaming mouses/keyboards.

P.S. the mouse is way flatter than it seems in the picture.

I've been using a Razer Naga Hex for almost two years, and it has been an excellent companion for Dota 2 and pretty much every other game that has multiple hotkeys.

Don't see myself using that many hotkeys on a MOBA, just not used to doing it, but then again never had a mouse where it paid off to do so. Thanks for the input anyway. :)

Not sure on much, just want to point out I have a GTX 760 and it works really well, also the mouse i use is a - CMStorm Xornet, super comfy, good for claw type grips, only got 2 buttons but I dont really need buttons. And It's actually quite small, its not very high but it is a bit wide, but i find it perfect. Just thought I'd share. :) Good luck!

Thanks for the info.
I might actually be going for a 760 myself actually, considering the price ranges i've been scouting. I have a friend with one as well and he also speaks really well of it, i just have to make sure my power core can handle it, as the 7XX range of Nvidia is a bit power-hungry.
But i should be fine. :)

Either GTX 970 or any AMD R9 over 270. The 970 has an excellent performance/price ratio, something that wasn't seen from nVidia for almost half a decade now. (Or, in other words: it is finally not their usually overpriced garbage.) The R9 280(X)/290 is a good competitor though.

Too bad you cannot wait, since this summer AMD releases the DX12 cards– the 300 series. DX12 itself is an awesome thing, so I'm definitely waiting until I can get a good mid-tier card that is DX12-compliant.

Oh, and if you want a decent budget mouse, I'd say Logitech. I can game perfectly well with my 10 USD Logitech mouse. But if you can get a little more crazy, Razer is what usually gets the best user reviews.

Well, the 970 is still quite above my price range, and everywhere i get info (whether friends, reviews, threads, etc.), for as good recommendations as some AMD Radeons get, Nvidia still been taking the cake (even if sometimes a bit overpriced).
Not to mention i've had over the years quite a few friends regretting buying them solely on durability alone. Don't know how skewed that info is, but fact is, this is the first GeForce that went belly up on me for more than a decade now... and it's about the same with pretty much everyone i know.

Despite what the pic seems to indicate, i've had a friend that has held both the Adder and the G502, and he says the Adder is actually bigger (wouldn't have guessed it). As much as i'd like to get a feel before buying, seems it's not gonna be that easy (if at all possible). Vendors here are crappy like that. And the surface issue still remains the bigger issue for me.
I might end up going with the G502, if not for more reason, because Logitech at least has never let me down and seems like it is the most popular choice everywhere atm, dethroning the Adder for the first time in a while now. I mean, i remember watching videos, reading reviews, etc., and almost every progamer would swear by the Adder as the choice. And seeing as the price is roughly the same, i might end up either going with the G502, or one of the 2 seemingly solid cheaper alternatives that have been suggested here, like the Anker 8200 or the Redragon M801 Mammoth. On format i like the Anker more, but the glossier surface is shying me away from it. Would heavily prefer a matte surface.

If the 970 is out of your range, I would doubly say get an AMD instead. Either as a temporary solution for the DX12 cards or an R7. nVidia is not a wallet-friendly option, and as for AMD durability… my four-year old HD 6850 is still working without as much as a fan rattle or BSoD due to GPU hiccup.

As for the mouse: yeah, Logitech is a great war horse. It may not be as fancy as a Razer or Roccat, but it will serve well.

The thing is i might actually get a wallet-friendly option on one of the 7XX series, i should know more soon. :)

As for the mouse, i'm also at the moment considering the Thermaltake Ventus X... chances are i might just go for either that, the 502 or the DeathAdder. I'll have to weigh in several key factors, but chances are i'm gonna cave for one of those 3.
I came across this one recently as a suggestion from a friend, i just have to get some more info on those honeycomb fan holes that are meant to specifically combat sweat, i can already see some possible cons to it, but it all boils down to the info i get on it.

Unless it is a 770, don't bother. The 750 and 750 Ti are so weak even for that price it is worse than a bad joke. The 770 at least has some kicks in it.

I always start with Tom's Hardware when looking to buy. They have the lists, reviews, and comparisons to bring you up to speed with what's currently on the market. (You can start with "Best Picks" in the middle of that web page.)

If you're going to get an Nvidia card, try to get one from EVGA. That company is rock-solid with a focus on their customers.

As for the mouse, I usually go with a mid-line Logitech or MS mouse and then use it until if falls apart (about five years). If you're shopping for one of those, your best bet is to go to a store (e.g. BestBuy) and try out all of their mice. See which shape and weight feels best to you. Then you can shop with that knowledge.

As for keyboards, go for comfort and function over looks. You can do the "feel test" in the store, just like you did for the mice.

Already went with an Asus 750 Ti at a cheaper price than usual for... an Asus. One of the good things about Asus (despite usually being pricey) is that on the off-chance that it gets busted within warranty and it's no longer being manufactured, they'll send me a newer and definitely better model within days. At least, that's what happened to the ONE Asus around here that ever got busted.
I do check Tom's... even though i used to do it on a more frequent basis, i've just been out of touch with the hardware market for a while and wanted to get some additional feedback. :)

As for the rest, i'm right up there with you, i couldn't care less about shiny LEDs and what-not... getting a feel though is going to be a problem. Hardware stores around here are bitchy like that. They won't let you open the box and they don't have open samples... More like... You touchy, you purchasy... ;)
