A key came with my graphics card a while back; I never used it. This was before 3DMark 11 was on Steam, so the key may or may not activate with it, but it will for sure activate with the version you DL from the 3DMark website.

The thing is, how do I check? Best case, it activates and everyone is happy; worst case it doesn't activate on steam but the winner still gets to use the software.

Key format. I don't see 3DMark 11 on that list. I can't be sure, but I'm fairly certain the key won't activate on Steam. Since this is Steamgifts, and non-Steam games/gifts/keys are against the rules, you should probably delete the giveaway, else it will be deleted for you. Ask support for assistance if you're still unsure.

This is totally not true, that cd-key list is so outdated, I don't get why everyone is still linking to it... And 3D Mark 11 and Vantage keys are activable on Steam.. proof

Are you American, aren't you? Because you act like a person who have double standards for everything: troll creates a fake giveaway from empty account - "OMG, DON'T CALL OUT CREATORS! I'll report you!"; a real person create a giveaway "STEAM VERSION OR GTFO".
