You can actually paste the gift link in the key box, it works.

It's not a key-gift, but a gift-gift: it starts with "?gift" instead of with "gift?key".

I tried it, though, and SteamGifts does not accept it.

it happens when you buy as a gift instead of gifting a copy you've bought... SG doesn't recognize it as a key
