Hey Zack! Quick update for you: I already fully completed Spyro 1! I played this game when I was a kid, but back then I didn't have a memory card, so I had to start over every time. xD Unimaginable today, but kids have infinite patience. 😋
I had a blast replaying this and was happy to finally finish it! I even went for all collectibles which I normally never do. 🙂
I'm playing Spyro 2 now, but sadly it's not as good as the first. There's a lot of backtracking due to areas that are not accessible until you unlock more powers. What powers you may ask? Well, you need to pay some guy a few hundred coins to teach you how to climb ladders... 🙄 Oh and you can only do that when you "finished" all the levels and have progressed to the next world. But I hear that Spyro 3 will be better again!

I'm so glad you're enjoying it! Personally, the only Spyro game I played was one I got out of the bragain bin for my GBA as a kid. I remember not knowing what to do at all! I got this + Crash during that very good Humble Monthly a couple years ago and tried playing them then, but I didn't have a controller then and playing with M+K felt so weird. They're both down on my backlog again, but you're giving me the urge to have another go now that I have a controller!

Heya! Back here with an update.
I ended up dropping Spyro 2 halfway through because of the issues I mentioned before and went on to Spyro 3.
Thankfully Spyro 3 was a nice return to form with only a few minigames I didn't enjoy (buggy skateboarding challenges 😛). Despite these I enjoyed the game overall and even went for the full completion again. 😁
Now that you have a controller you should definitely give them a try. They're a nice relaxing distraction where you can just turn your brain off. Good way to decompress after work or whatever. 😊

Glad you kept playing! I know a lot of people let bad parts of games sour the rest of the game for them.
And definitely will. Have Spyro and Crash downloaded, ready to play when I finish playing through the Witcher series!
