In 1935, Wallace Carothers (head of the chemistry department at DuPont, formerly Du Pont de Nemours), developps a new polymer, Poly(hexamethylene adipamide), and branded as "Nylon". The textile both elastic and very restistant quickly finds its way to your favorite outlet. Legends say Nylon is a word made-up with the first letter of the names of each of the scientists' wives.
