Wouldn't the gift url from Humble Bundle be a better way to give them? That way the winner knows that no one else has seen their steam key or a link to download their games?

Well I have already bought them and didn't set the option to gift.

I don't see why it matters if anyone has seen the key if the winner gets to activate it? Can only be used once, and besides, nobody has or will see it apart from the winner and myself.

That is true, It really can not hurt anything as long as the gifts are redeemable through steam. There is always the theory though that someone downloaded the games and didn't activate them on steam. Or just used the other random fake steam you could redeem them on. (I don't even remember what that was.) Obviously you wouldn't have a reason to do that though because you can just go get another copy and hopefully you want your own steam key.

Ah well I have only just come across the Humble Bundle website, never heard of those download/activate glitches or whatever.

Either way, I have my own key, check my steam page if you must for peace of mind, the games are there.
