As soon as you take a step, the floor creaks beneath you. The creature snaps its head toward the sound and charges. Time seems to freeze for a moment as you and Spudley lock eyes. In that fleeting instant, you know what you must do.

Without hesitation, you shield Spudley with your body and leap through the window. The world blurs as you position yourself to take the brunt of the impact. As the ground rushes toward you, you manage a faint smile, looking at Spudley one last time. "I lo—"

The words are cut off as you hit the ground. Agonizing pain explodes through your body, your bones splintering and organs rupturing from the force. Blood pools beneath you as your strength begins to fade.

Through dimming vision, you see a familiar figure approach. The stoner, remarkably unscathed, bends down and gently picks up Spudley. "Let’s get you out of here, little guy," he says softly, cradling Spudley in his arms.

A weak smile touches your lips as darkness envelops you. Your final thought is of Spudley, safe at last.
