Thankyou very much. I received the gift. Apparently, this was a purchased "early access" copy as well (at least, that is how steam seems to be treating it). I don't know if it was you, but it seems like somebody at some point payed money for it. I've got it sitting in my inventory until the 30 day waiting period is over just to be safe. I don't wanna redeem a game that might be revoked later due to payment issues, which potentially puts my account in jeopardy.

You can safely activate it. I received yesterday like many others that had Dota 2 as a "gift for a friend". And it is for early access since Dota 2 is still in Beta state.
