To create the contest, I need to enter the key into the system here. It remains hidden from others until the contest ends when I award/send it to the winner. It is hard to distinguish between Since I can NOT test the key first without invalidating it, there are times when I am not certain if a character is a number or a letter. So I place my comment so as to hopefully not leave a new winner frustrated if the code as I enter it does not work.
Hello, just for your information, you don't havet o enter the key straight away. You can select "gift" and choose to enter the key later. To avoid character swaps, best is to copy-paste the key from the source. Have a nice day. 🙂
As far as I remember, you still can edit the key as of now, in case you notice something's wrong.
In my case, the key is a photo... no text to copy and paste. Also, I prefer to enter the key at the beginning. That way, if I am away from home when the contest ends, I can send the key immediately and not have to wait until I get home to look it up. :)

I´ve only done "gift" GAs once or twice, but I don´t remember any chance to enter anything once the winner is drawn?? You manually have to send the "gift" by whatever means are appropriate yourself. Be it as a Steamgift or the key in some message, somewhere ..
Now, and of this I can be sure, when creating a GA you can enter "anything" as a key - litterally ; )
This can´t be changed then until the GA is over! Only then, before you send the key, you can modify the letters/numbers etc. you put in beforehand. For obvious reasons this remains possible until the GA is marked as "received". After that.. cast in stone : D
The giveaway form literally says "You can also select gift if you wish to add keys after the giveaway ends, rather than now." I personally always do it that way.
