Who doesn't like tomatoes đ?

One of my friends actually told me that they dont get why I am so obsessed with something so flavorless. Because whenever she ate one, it had next to no flavor. I told her that she surely never ate a good tomato if she is that sure about the matter.
I am hoping to surprise her one day with one of my self-grown tomatoes (I am a hobby gardener, keeping a few plants at max) to show her that there is a difference between a mass-produced vegetable from the local supermarket and a self-grown, juicy tomato.

A bad tomato is "just there". A good tomato makes a dish :)

Could not have said better myself! :)

Bad tomatoes are the price we pay for overproduction and agro-engineering, sadly.
I don't think it's possible to get a good tomato here if you don't grow it or don't know anyone who grows them.
A good tomato is an umami and sweetness bomb. A bad tomato is water and sourness.

I am affraid you are right. Overused soil as the consequence of mass production surely leads to a loss of quality
Here in Hungray its relatively easy to get good tomatoes as still a considerable amount of households tend to have at least a little kitchen garden. Though the weather is extremely hot and arid this summer, so I worry for this years yield.

Different people have different sense of taste and certain things can taste totally different to some people. Take Cilantro for example, I love the stuff and grow it myself, but to some people it tastes like soap and they can't understand how anyone can like it.

Fair point, although I'd wager not liking the taste is a different thing than claiming that something is flavorless.
By the way, what you wrote about cilantro reminded me of a certain moment a few years ago.
A friend of mine brew some beer one summer. He gave me a glass to check out the taste.
I took a sip, told him its fine. He asked if i can guess the flavoring. To which I said: maybe orange and cilantro.
He stopped in his tracks and looked at me in disbelief, asking how did I know.
But I had to admit that it was just a wild guess then. xD Now I know that orange peel and cilantro are common in beer brewing so its nothing out of the ordinary. Quite commonplace in fact.

With cilantro, it's actually a physical thing. Some olfactory receptor malfunction due to a gene mutation I think

The Berry conspiracy is freaking people out so I try not to mention that peppers, chili peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, zucchini and squash are actually berries because they tend not to want to speak to me after that, especially when I tell them that strawberries and raspberries are not berries.
Some people just can't accept it when you blow open the doors of their perception. ;)

lol i think its totally obvious if you compare them to blueberries... same structure.
didint know about peppers and eggplants. but if you list cucumbers you have to list (water) melon and pumpkin as well... also apparently bananas are berries as well
i also knew about strawberries and raspberries but i always forget what they are instead >.<

It's a conspiracy, I told you!
Botanically they are aggregated stone fruits (peaches and cherries are also stone fruits)
And let's not talk about peanuts being beans or cashews being seeds because it's too disturbing.

i dont really see how they are stone fruit... well.. because there is no stone
a lot of "nuts" arent really nuts, most are seeds. i believe almonds are stone fruit (not sure though)

Apparently to qualify as a stone fruit, a fruit needs to have a thin skin (or exocarp) with a layer of flesh underneath surrounding a seed with a hard endocarp. Raspberries do have tiny seeds you can feel in the 'drupelets", which are just the tiny little balls that form what we call a raspberry.
Strawberries are more technically stone fruits because one flower produces many tiny seeds on one "stem" fruit.
They are. Technically they are the seed of a stone fruit but yes. If you break open the pit of a peach or an apricot, you can actually find an an almond shaped seed that taste very similar to an almond in there. It's sometimes used in apricot or peach desserts by pastry chefs, in a very limited amount because they contain a much higher concentration of cyanide than almonds do.
I think Botany just wants to drive us crazy.
