I'm curious, did you use a calculator to solve the expression or did you realise about the trick?

Oh, i saw the post and i thought there must be a trick, im horrible at math but this seemed like anyone good at math wouldn't have a good time solving it either lmao "log" "cos" "sin" "tan"?????

But yeah, then i realised there were too many parenthesis and tried going for it on my own, seems like i must've messed up the simple multiplication and after that i passed the equation through chatGPT to verify that i was not wrong (and because i coulndn't solve the simple multiplication) and as soon as i loaded it in, it started generating a 15-step procedure on how to solve it, after a few tries (in which i though i had already lost the key due to the time it was taking), i just started a new chat, put the equation in and gave it the hint that it MUST be a 4 digit number, after that it gave the answer straight away.
Sorry for the long reply, i just wanted to give you my process hahaha

Oh btw, question for you, do you hate the idea of people using external tools (like chatGPT) to solve your puzzles? I personally don't like to use them on the puzzles side unless i desperately need them, but in this case, it being a sweepstake and all, i started panicking because im horrible and i ended up using chatGPT to help myself.

Interesting, cause I used chatgpt to verify it wouldn't be solvable by AI, also used Wolfram. In my case, chatgpt gave me a completely wrong four digits number, interestingly enough.
Nah I don't mind people using whatever tool they need in order to solve a puzzle, it should be a puzzler's responsibility to make their puzzles whatever-proof, if they really care, and nowadays you can expect people to try chatgpt especially. One thing I did think was that being a math professor today must be tough lol, if kids learn to use these tools well too.

Never heard of that "It's the puzzlers responsability to make their puzzles whatever proof", makes sense. Oh and yeah, being a teacher in general must be tough nowadays, at least for math, before, you had a calculator or something, for other things like history and such you can now get full documents and stuff in seconds, crazy.
