Seems I am not the only one who completely forgot about the GAs and only looked at the wonderful pics and gifs.
Thank you for the lovely sentiments and the positivity! 💙

And I guess, the GAs, whatever they were. 😋

I couldn't agree more. I can walk around with a huge smile on my face just because the sun was reflected beautifully from a window, a butterfly decided to pass by or the clouds are playing around a mountain. :)
It is the little things that can be so overwhelmingly beautiful when you consider just how wonderful and unlikely everything around us actually is.

That's lovely :) I'm sure if you look at the most relaxed and happiest people in life, it will be someone who appreciates those little things and takes time to go seek them out! It's amazing how we experience the world and how many different kinds of things there are out there! Millions of species of animals, types of food, plants, books, art, movies, definitely nothing to get bored from :D

I love the mountains and wished I lived close to them! Lucky you 🙊

This is my favourite kind of scenery, it's beautiful!

Absolutely - while there are many things that we should care about, it makes no sense to worry obsessively (I really wish I could worry less). I try to live responsibly and be aware of my small circle of influence, but I know I will not solve the issues of this world - so I at least try to enjoy all the small things and share them with people around me. A simple smile will generate a very different outcome in most situations.

Those pictures are wonderful - something similar to the latter one could be found in my surroundings. Whenever I find the time to go to one of these magic places, I am overwhelmed by the sheer beauty of it.

I worry and overthink way too much as well, trying to calm down my mind haha :D If you worry too much, you won't have any energy left to do anything or enjoy things! All you can do is the best with what you're given and help when you're able :) No matter how much you want to change or fix things, you usually can't do it alone and can't do it if you don't take care of yourself! I hope you keep finding time to visit those places! This made me think of one of my favourite quotes from Vincent Van Gogh :)

That is indeed a wonderful quote, thank you!

Today I decided to basically take a long detour on my bicycle ride home in order to enjoy the sunny day and the lovely view. Something I like to do frequently and that always brings me joy, no matter how many times I do it. It re-charges my batteries and helps me calm down simply because I take the time for the journey instead of rushing home the shortest and fastest way and then trying to do as much as possible before allowing myself to go to bed.

I hope you have some nice places you can go to frequently to slow down and enjoy the moment. 💙

That sounds so peaceful, I'm happy you found such a nice moment of relaxation there! I would really love to learn how to ride a bike as I embarassingly never learned how lol! Thank you :) I hope to get out more especially now that it's autumn and take my dog on lots of walks! Wish I lived somewhere with more nature, everything's getting taken over by buildings!

I moved from a big city to a much smaller one with nature close by simply because I never liked these big places. Even as a kid (born in that big city) I always felt unhappy, but back then I didn't know why and it also wouldn't have changed anything, as I wouldn't have been able to change it.

Now that I have the opportunity to enjoy nature whenever I feel like it, I am so much happier and calmer. Seeing as you seem to love nature, maybe you could move at the very least to the suburbs if at all possible? I know there are always so many things holding us back and we feel we have no choice, but we always do. I guess it really depends on how big the pain is. ;)

Give your dog a big cuddle from me! 💗🐶💗

Yeah the city gives me major anxiety too! Thankfully I do live in a suburbs area, there's just not many places left "wild" to explore really close by, but it's not bad and still very pretty in some areas! I'm 24, living with my parents and can't move on my own, but they really want to consider moving to Eastern Canada :) I hope so cause it's so beautiful there! Thank you I will 🙊 He loves to cuddle all day lol!

Oh, also: I am currently helping a friend learn how to swim. Imagine two grown men standing in shallow water, one giving directions and advice and the other one paddling along like a 3-year old. People don't care, they are mostly impressed that he took the step to learn how to swim now (and here it is extremely uncommon not to be able to swim).
So if you want to learn how to ride a bike, grab your daughter/son, niece/nephew or equivalent and simply do it. Just make sure you find a place without traffic and practice a fair amount before joining the fray of cars and bikes. :)

That's so sweet of you and really nice people aren't judging and you wouldn't let it stop you even if they would :) I do have a nephew who's 2 years old, maybe I can learn with him soon haha :D I live about 3 minutes from a park so I have a perfect place to try it out!

Excellent! You really should do that. Riding a bike is great fun once you manage to feel you have full control of it. Also, it helps your balance, you are very independent and it is always great to learn and master new things (I took up playing guitar when Corona hit and while I am far from mastering it, I can now play many of the songs I wanted to while still learning every single time I pick it up - it also has some meditative qualities, as I can only concentrate on the guitar and singing at that time and all else is gone from my mind).

Eastern Canada must be beautiful. So far I have only been to Toronto (which is a lovely place - for a city) several times to visit my wife's family, but I would really love to go and spend some weeks in nature in Canada. It must be wonderful if you go to a place where you are hours from "civilisation" and no one else is around.

I'm sure it's super fun and freeing, I'm definitely going to try this autumn :) Ohh I would also love to learn guitar! Seems super relaxing and it sounds beautiful! You should listen to Alan Gogoll, he does acoustic songs based on the wildlife and nature in Australia, it's very unique! Toronto has some cool stuff there but very busy! I've been camping a few hours north from the Toronto area and it's really beautiful and peaceful! I actually saw a sky full of stars for the first time lol!

A starry night far away from light pollution is breath-taking. I had that moment on a mountain at 2.000m in a cold, clear September night. I kept looking up all the constellations and was in awe by the Milky Way (the first time that I understood why it's called that). After two hours I found every little constellation I could (I had a great, old star book that allowed for latitude and date - it was fascinating) and only then did I realise I was nearly frozen stiff. Took me several hours with two blankets to warm up again, but it was absolutely worth it, even while I lay there shivering.

And wow, Alan Gogoll is really impressive. Thank you for the tip!
I simply taught myself with some free videos by "Andy Guitar", and he manages to spark your enthusiasm even in these early days when you basically struggle to get any clean chords. So if you want to learn, this could be a place to start, although I guess some professional tutor in your area could help you along much faster.

But I noticed right away how therapeutic this was for me in a time of high stress at work and several years of narrowly avoiding burn out again and again. It worked so much better for me than meditating (although I learned to love this, too, during this tough time), simply because even when my brain kept rotating during meditation, it was completely focused on the task at hand when practising playing the guitar. And when you have your first success, it really can get you hooked.

So: Learning to play guitar and riding a bicycle - there you have your new tasks. :)

Wow that sounds wonderful! It wasn't as special as that, I think it was still too close to busier areas! Seeing the galaxy in the sky must be magical! I would also love to see the northern lights :) I don't think I've ever used a telescope either, if I ever do I'll be sure to buy a star constellations book! Thank you for the Andy Guitar suggestion! I need to pick up some more creative hobbies, it can be very meditating! I mostly play games and watch tv :S While it keeps me busy and I learn a lot from them, I want to do and create things of my own!

I like to play and watch some series to take my mind off, as well - but playing guitar, riding a bike in nature or playing sports is a different quality. These things not only take your mind off, they really refuel your mind and body. I cannot overemphasize how important these things have become to me the older I get.

And learning something new every now and then is just a vital part to staying young and active. Plus, it gives you so many things to fall back on, both in terms of work and, more importantly, life in general. Everything you learn plays into everything you do. :)

I'm so sorry I took forever to respond! Your mind and body do really seem to be a big influence on each other! It's something I need to work on the most! Depression makes it feel really hard to get out of my head, forget whatever upsets me and push to do something that may be confusing or hard to start but I know will help! I procrastinate and do what's comfortable... but it's not really living like I want! You've really inspired me to do something new, so thank you :)

No worries about the response time - as you can see, it took ME some time to reply this time around. :P

I just got back from a short trip to the mountains. And I know that when depression hits, sound reasoning goes out of the window. Just knowing something will be good for you usually doesn't help in that moment. But if you manage to get to the root of the reason for your depression, it might change things around. I am fortunate in the sense that I usually have my depressive phase in winter-time or with some specific triggers - and I also found out it is a genetical thing from my mother's side. Ever since I knew that, it has become easier for me to deal with it. That doesn't mean that on those days when it really hits I can simply shrug it off, but at least the darkest thoughts stay in the far back of my head because I can tell myself that nothing has changed since yesterday or last week, when I didn't feel worthless.

But I also find that it really helps to actually do things, learn things, be active when you are feeling good. And that it is vital to self-reflect in the good times. I see so many people who flee into relationships in order to avoid having to spend time with themselves - only to fail in these relationships again and again because they define themselves by that relationship (and the other person), which is always a recipe for disaster (or, at the very least, very unhealthy relationships).

It took me decades to accept some things about myself that I can't change (or that are not important, especially if they are superficial) and to realise what I actually can change and how to go about it. And it will take the rest of my life - but that is the wonderful thing: We are an extremely versatile animal. We can change and adapt so incredibly much once we can pinpoint what we want to change to feel better.

Sorry for the "philosophy-rant". :D

But yeah, challenging yourself with things you might end up enjoying is a very good approach to grow, increase your confidence and pride as well as simply learn more about the wonderful creature you are. I really hope you will give riding a bike and playing a guitar a try. On a side-note: I will get a midi keyboard from a friend to help me compose music on my computer. Basically it is just meant as a means of input for all the sounds and effects - but I will take the opportunity to teach myself a bit of piano along the way. No idea how this will go, but I am looking forward to it. :)

That sounds so lovely! I hope it was really peaceful and fun :) What did you do there?

I'm so sorry you deal with those feelings too :( You sound very lovely, kind and intelligent! I hope you continue to push past those bad thoughts and keep doing what brings you peace and enjoyment! It seems like you've got an amazing understanding of yourself and of others!

Change feels so scary but it can also be beautiful! Lots of my depression comes from my own inaction and passivity, not doing much different from each day, letting myself experience life, thinking I'm not strong enough to deal with the hard parts so I hide away! The world is also kind of terrifying, so I won't totally blame myself there haha :s I do let people or situations make me way more anxious than I should, but I've been getting a lot better! I used to be really upset that I felt too different from others (I can still feel that way sometimes)... but being uniquely yourself is a good thing! It can feel freeing, conformity is what should be scary! (I added another quote by Vincent Van Gogh, he's honestly one of my favourite people!) There's a Doctor Who episode about him; how he painted the most special pieces of art, saw the world in such a beautiful way, but he was unbearably lonely, self-conscious and dealt with crippling depression, it broke my heart!

People definitely use relationships as a crutch for self-esteem/ego, as a singular way to understand themselves or rush into one out of loneliness! Someone actually really hurt my heart these past few months, I let it really get me down, and it's worse I don't think they care... when I really thought they did... But I'm not letting someone make me feel like that or let something hurtful someone else did to me define me! It's really hard when people mess with your emotions :(

A midi keyboard looks cool and I didn't know about them! I hope you enjoy creating with that :) I have a regular keyboard piano! I used to take lessons, not for very long but I do love the piano and want to try learning that as well!

Learning and creating new things is a big goal I'll try my best on 🙊 I know it will help tremendously!

I just took a few days off and hiked a bit - I can't really do big tours anymore since I ruined my knees and back in my younger days. But I do enjoy getting away from the busy life (we always stay in a little hut up there).

I think most people deal with one or another version of depression at some point in their lives. I expect it is more common for sensitive and/or intellectual people, since they are the ones giving things a second (and third and ... ) thought. And once you try and think about every little thing (or let everything get to you), you are bound to feel down and low. It is difficult at times to look at the wonderful side of things when you are so concerned about the uglier stuff.

But I guess it does get a bit easier with age, once you realise that life does go on and there are so many beautiful moments still waiting for you.

I know the pain you talk about. It always hurts to let your guard down with someone who isn't worth it. I hope you can come out of this stronger and still able to open up to someone else without reservation. You will still experience your fair share of heartache and pain in all kinds of relationships - we all do. But it will become easier to realise if someone isn't good for your mental and emotional well-being. And it definitely gets easier to get rid of these people - at least if you spend the time to get to know yourself when you have the chance.

I am still learning about myself on a daily basis and I am also still trying to change the things I don't like about me or my reaction to outside influence. I will until the day I die, I am sure. :)

And yes, learning and creating are both so vital (and they are interwoven) - you will always find things that are challenging, maybe even daunting. But once you put your mind to it, you will find you can master them. At least if this is something that you want to achieve. And it is wonderful just playing around with things, be it on the guitar, the bike, coding, writing poetry, or whatever comes to mind - you can make everything playful and look at the result as a bonus. And with playful approach comes learning.

Thank you for being so open and also for yet another wonderful quote. I must finally start to write my little booklet with quotes - on the one hand to practise calligraphy, on the other to have something that will help me in the darker days. I am not sure why quotes like this comfort me when I am down - maybe it is because I decided to put them down when I was feeling better and I trust this "better" version of me. So they still must hold true.
