Description

Hello Everyone,

So I'm giving away games to raise awareness of a charity I'm starting (don't worry, I'm not asking for/accepting any donations). I run a company that sells an enterprise computer security solution, but now I'd like to give back by making it available for free for home use.

I think the free technology is a perfect fit for gamers. It runs in the background without any UI/popups to pull you out of a game. It won't impact system performance (back when I had more free time, I played a lot of competitive multiplayer games and hated AV products that impacted my games). And frankly as a demographic I think we engage in some, let's say, riskier surfing behaviors that make it especially necessary to have something better than AV.

You can learn more about my security offering, Solidus, and download it at http://GetSolid.us. Feel free to message me here with any questions you might have (Tech-wise, about my credentials, etc).

I'm also planning to do some non-bundled giveaways for users of the technology to increase adoption and further encourage users to spread the word. I'd really love to see this charity make as much of a difference and protect as many people as possible. Let me know if you install the product (honor policy), and I will add you to a whitelist for those future giveaways.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you take advantage of the free security offering.

Thanks for the GA.

One small suggestion for the site is to provide slightly more details about what Solidus actually does that your typical AV does not. When I clicked the link and then the Learn More button, I found myself wondering what it actually does that say Avira or BitDefender does not and couldn't really determine that from the description. I am very technically inclined (also a software developer) and know my way around AV Comparitives but didn't really get what role Solidus was trying to fulfill. To be fair, I didn't look very thoroughly but just wanted to note it because if I don't understand from the Learn More, then I'm sure there are others who wouldn't as well. Hope that helps!

Thank you very much for taking a look and the feedback.

The main pages are primarily geared toward an audience that does not have a technical background since that is the majority of the general public. I view computers a lot like cars. They are important tools, and it's not realistic or reasonable to expect most people to know how they work. Not everyone is a mechanic.

It sounds to me like you definitely are a "mechanic". So some of the more technical info on how technology you'd want is found on the FAQ page under "How Solidus Works" (If you are curious, I also provided an answer to another SteamGifters that you might be interested in that specifically covers the topic in a fair bit of depth: https://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/GWOBYP7). Perhaps I should link to that FAQ section off the Learn More section.

Beyond the technological differences in the agent, a significant difference between any other security product available to consumers and my offering is that there is an actual human incident responder reviewing each security event detected to determine if it is a false positive or legitimate threat. This IR model is used by every major company and is a critical part of their ability to adequately defend against attacks without impacting end-users. This critical piece is missing from the defense of home-users, and I'd like to change that.

Thanks again.
