Gated is a general term used for things that are blocked off to the average person for crazy reasons.. Really goes well with some games that are released as complete but really aren't and may you pay to complete it or get content that should have been included in the game. Mostly call of duty games and recently Mass Effect 3
You're good people, not that those that do aren't. Some like to give the chance to only high contributors which is a good idea especially when its a new release. Its a reward for those that make tons of others happy.
