I've heard a couple people say that the narrator really annoyed them, but for me, it was his humor that really tied it together. First time falling off a platform, and the narrator goes "And then, he falls to his death. ... I'm just foolin'" as you respawn and fall to the platform landing on your face, I literally fell out of my chair laughing so hard.
Fun fact, the guy that voiced the narrator from Bastion also voiced the sword from Transistor.
Yup same with you, I think the narrator gives a fun and unique interaction not to mention he got a really nice voice xD. Seems like we have a good memory about this game, I still can't forget the final part that's just epic (with the music!) and it's the first game I beat on steam too!
That's a nice fun fact to know, seems like supergiant games like to work with the same team/people (like the singer/musician Darren Korb that works with them from bastion to hades!)
