Welcome to the thirty first week of the 52 weeks of Christmas!!! What is the 52 weeks of Christmas you might ask? I will be giving away a new game each week for 52 week. To make things more fun, I will be asking a new question each week also. I hope that by doing this I may brighten someones week. I even create a group on Steam where you can follow every giveaway(link at the bottom).I hope you will have as much fun as I do with this.
New Week, New Questions
Q1: Square Enix earning call highlighted a trend in recent AAA games that I find disturbing. Those games needs to sell such a high amount of copies in order to be in the black (profitable) that it is becoming harder to reach those goals. With such high amount of money put in the production of those games, many developers are stuck in the same old in order to guarantee a safe investment.
Would you rather see a decrease in the production value of each games and an increase in innovation, diversity and new projects?
What would you change in today's AAA games in order to make them not only more profitable for the company but also less of a risk for developers to make?
Do you have a topic or a question you would like to be featured as the question of the week? Leave it in this thread.thread.

Thanks!
1 - no need, the indies/Kickstartees will diversify for us.
2 - the issue is greedy/incompetent business people; that will never change.

It's more of a general problem. Planescape: Torment is probably one of the most loved games of people who played it. Problem is: It sold like nothing. So many people are sick of the new Call of Battlefield, but in the end they still buy it instead of trying something new. It's a shame, because I would realy think many developers want to do new stuff, but know it probably does'nt sell good. Even Indie Dev's do this. How many Plattformgames with a minor gameplaychange we have? Too many.
About Square Enix... it's a bit different. They expected way more than they should even expect, taken into account how the older games sold. Why did they expect so much more sales than previously for they new games?

thanks a lot!!! 1-No but i think that the cost themselves are too high.
2-Vary gameplay and lower the price make sure the game has a amazing story with a real unexpected ending.
Thanks again!!!!

Thank you!
I'd like to see much better quality that is unique in it's own way and not games that actually have the same thing done over and over again that's just wrapped in pretty graphics just to hide that fact. But then again, people are running out of ideas so I can't say much.
Make DLCs not as extra, but an expansion of a game

Thanks for the awesome giveaway. )
1) Kickstarter is already forcing this issue, thereby breathing life back into a dying industry.
2) Fire the CEO's of the publishing houses and replace them with people who actually know and understand the art form known as "computer gaming."

1) Yes - well you have to strike a balance, not all new innovative games may be good, there's plenty of innovative ideas which should possibly not see the light of day, like using your face to break someones fists... actually that could be a pretty entertaining game...
2) hire better/professional writers for putting the games together, ones who've started to realize more of the potentials behind the narrative differences and abilities that the media allows, Bastion is a good example of a step in the right direction. Really doing that and not insulting the audience with "tough" moral decisions like whether or not to set the orphans on fire...
