Really awesome GA!

I'm hijacking the top comment just to remind people to play it cool and resist the urge to slam Domos123 with accusations of a fake giveaway. You risk the chance of being suspended or even banned.

I agree. There is no real way of knowing if this is fake or not till it ends. Keep calm and enter. :-)

you can check his profile and see it checks out that he does give the gifts when people win

That is great. My comment wasn't meant to insinuate that the GA is fake or that he doesn't give gifts to winners. It was a genuine thank you. No idea why people might think that I am saying anything other than "Really awesome GA!". Goodness.

This is way some people that have been for a long time, don't want to first comment.
When people want to leave a important message, the most logical is to use the first comment.
I won't, as any other busy people, spend reading every comment to find something relative important.

7 succesful giveaways, 3 years member, forum post and no one calling out so far, I see you like preventive measures :P

It's just tiring seeing the same comments over and over. I can only imagine how Support must feel.

I don't see the harm in trying to save points for people in the "giveaways" from new users who obviously don't understand how the website works yet. But meh...
This looks very much genuine anyway.
Thanks Domos!

The best way to do this is to leave a polite reminder for the giveaway creator, making sure they understand what the site is for. It alerts others to check the user and make their own judgement calls, and also gives the GA creator a chance to come calm any fears.

That's a very good point and could have saved me a two day suspension recently. Thanks for the advice. I'd rather try to help people (new users or old) than sit idly by ;-)

Except no offence, but you're not really helping if you're calling out people on other GAs, even if you think you are positive it's fake.
Because nobody can be certain something is fake till it actually ends and the 7 days deadline has passed. And even then, the punishment justly fits the crime. And yes, there is a punishment.
And in the chance (small or big is irrelevant) that you are right when you do call out, you save people some virtual Ps. Congrats. Slow Clap.
BUT if you are wrong (like i've seen happen too often), you're probably discouraging a generous gifter from gifting again. I've seen people say it that plainly after legitimately delivering their gift, because they didn't want the hassle of ever having to deal with the slander again.
SG does not need the kind of service you feel you are providing, it has a support for that. So no need for white knights, as they do more harm no good.
Try to understand, not trying to start something with you (i'm really not, but i share Laqueefa's pain)... it's just that people like you need to understand you're not really doing anyone a service, quite the opposite.
IF you really want to pay people a service, don't take the easy road. You bookmark a GA you believe to be fake, wait the 7 days after it's over, check it... and then and only then IF the gift has not been delivered, then you report. That's it, no more, no less. But it is more time consuming than just calling out, which is why support's job should be left to support.
Rules are rules, but each and every one of said rules count, and nobody is above them.
/rant :)

No offence taken and I'll forgive you the rant as you don't know the full details.
I'm in no way defending the people who call "FAKE!!!" on giveaways and I share the same views as you and Laqueefa; it has no place or justification on here. My suspension was for answering a comment that questioned the validity of a giveaway, which I presumed was the community spirited thing to do. Before answering I checked the Steam games library and wishlist of the giveaway creator to form an opinion; in that case it was a new user with the game on their wishlist. I thought I was justified in saying that the new user probably didn't understand how the site works, but I now know that I broke a rule and will not be doing it again. Lesson learned.
I'm not proposing to offer a "white knighting" service to SG but if I see a similar giveaway in the future, I feel that doing as Uroboros says above is a chance to help a new user to understand the website and avoid being reported (also saving some users "virtual points.") Applause. If that's also against the rules, I'll serve my suspension and try another tack. SG really needs system whereby new users are informed of how the site works before they create a giveaway.
I can only apologise to Domos123 and dampi256 for being hijacked for this conversation that maybe should have been in the discussion forums. Sorry guys =)

First and foremost, beginning at your end, each and every GA allows for the users to comment, i hardly consider that hijacking. Just as long as no rules are broken, i hardly see it as a bad thing. :)
Regardless of some flaws here and there from a batch of users (i'm not perfect, i don't expect others to be - and i'm not referring to you or anyone in specific that comes to mind, by the way), one of the best things (if not THE best thing) about SG is i feel, its community, and their willingness to debate (as long as within the rules). To debate, argue (in a civil manner) is not in anyway a disservice to the site, to a GA or anyone in it... in my humble opinion. ;)
As for the full details, i've read them and hope you don't take this as uppity / snob, but they were not really necessary. Whichever the circumstances of your suspension, as you yourself in your detailed explanation have admitted as such, they lead to a rightful suspension, so that's all the detail needed... again, in my humble opinion. As you yourself said, lesson learned, that's what matters.
As for the most important part of your post, i don't see any harm in following Uroboro's suggestion, highly depending on you express yourself in doing so, of course, as my biggest point of contention as expressed in my first post, was and is, how so many people continuously antagonize new users creating GAs. I've even recently seen a GA description of a user that has been here for months, has created several GAs, some of them for AAA games, feel the need to open his GA description with "no, it's not fake, you can check my inventory".
I do however wholeheartedly disagree with this:
I don't really feel it does.
If a user can't be bothered to access all the information that is presented to him in a very easy to understand information completely and easily accessible through the FAQ and such, it's on him, not on SG.
Also, i'm a bit past my 1st created GA, so i can't confirm this, but as fas as i know, whenever a user creates a GA for the first time now, he gets a few extra pop-ups guiding him in the right direction. If a user can't be bothered to read even that, i don't honestly know what SG can do. So as far as i know, the system you wish is ironically, already in place. ;)
As a sidenote, i for one, am glad we could have a healthy small exchange of views and as stated at the begining of this post, don't see it as harmful for anyone. Anyone can simply opt-out by ignoring, it's not being forcefully fed on them. ;)

I see your point, but dampi256 has already expressed dismay at feeling his comment has been "hijacked" and I may feel the same if all I had posted was:
As you say, the full details were not necessary but were in response to an accusation of "calling out" which, technically, it wasn't to the degree implied. It also highlighted the issue at hand.
Why do you think the giveaway creator you mentioned felt like he/she had to state that it wasn't a fake? The problem IMO isn't so much with people calling out, it's the "fake" giveaways by new users, especially AAA titles (GTA V being the prime example at the moment.) Eliminate these "fakes" and you should eliminate the people calling out.
It happens far too often to simply be put down to laziness, idiocy or language barriers, so the root cause of the problem must lie somewhere else. I also can't remember what safeguards are in place but they obviously don't work as intended. So that brings us to the question of what more SG can do... and I don't know either =)
At least I agree with you on one point; having a healthy exchange of views. On the rest I think we may have to agree to disagree... =)

Ditto, a single glance on his profile shows that this GA ain't fake at all.
Thank you for your giveaway, Domos123

No problem, it's a level 0 GTA V giveaway that lasts one week, it will have at least 10000 entries so why even bother entering anyway :)

It's a good place to store 60 points for a rainy day.

Exactly... It is pretty obvious. Tomorrow i will have 360 points to spend on real things... :D

On an Xbox 360 ?

Nothing is obvious, if you're paranoid just wait and see if his other big giveaway gets confirmed. Until then don't imply anything, the ban hammer is always hungry.

I am no expert but why would someone make a fake giveaway? don't they get banned for this???
Anyway thank you again Domos, you are giving away cool games!

New people don't understand how this works sometimes. They may think for example that they will get free games if they create a giveaway for that game.
