It is an expansion, it is just downloadable. It is pretty huge from what I've heard, more gameplay hours than some full games.

Yeap, PotFF is an expansion pack. New story mode, new monsters, increased level cap etc. Takes around 15-25 hours.
And retail game(boxed edition) doesn't requires the base game :)
