Pre-ordered this game for $45 because I like the Alien franchise and loved AvP. I wanted to play this game with my friends. That didn't turn out so well. After playing the game, I told my friends not to buy it. Not for the full price at least.
Now Sega is releasing another game from the Aliens franchise. I think this was a bad move on their part. Many people are still upset about Alien: CM fiasco and releasing another Aliens game so soon might open up some wounds. I can't see them selling this game well until some trustworthy reviewers can recommend it.
Some people say that this is made by another developer, but Gearbox is not a bad developer. Although a large part of the game was outsourced. They did make Borderlands games which are some of the best co-op games out there right now. As a publisher, Sega is responsible for making sure the quality of the game they are selling is up to standards.
Maybe Sega is confident about this game so they are releasing it in order to gain back trust. Apparently it has been in production since before ACM was released. If it turns out to be a hit, good for them. But I wanted to advice people to think about this if you are thinking of pre-ordering it.
Also, I wouldn't really trust their gameplay videos if I were you.
Now back to this game, it seems to have gotten massive update (around 4GB last I heard) so maybe they fixed the game up (E: according to them, it's not enough). So whoever wins this, hope you enjoy it. Good luck to all of you.
I would like to hear from you what you think. Do you think it was the right thing to do to release this game so soon after ACM?
Edit: A bonus video.

I feel I should point out that Sega got completely screwed over by Gearbox in regards to this. I'm not sure why it was released how it did, but a huge amount of it was outsourced to multiple other companies and Sega probably needed a return on their investment. Why? Because Gearbox stole money from them. They took money and developers from this game to work on Borderlands 2 and A:CM suffered drastically as a result. Don't blame Sega or any of the developers who had this huge project suddenly dumped in their laps. Blame Gearbox for every little flaw in this entire mess.
That said, thank you very much, Zrr00!

I wonder if Sega knew about the separately rendered footage before it was presented it as actual gameplay. It's far from the first time companies have done this, and Isolation shows the usual signs of selective/doctored/rendered footage. Meanwhile, fans are still begging for a solid Aliens game~

Which is why I wrote Sega should have made sure the game was up to standards. I understand if they cancelled it or delayed it, there would have been a backlash, but would it have been more than it is after ACM got released as it did? Sega's reputation took a huge hit and I feel that it could have long term consequences for them.
As for Gearbox, people still love them because they made Borderlands 2 a success. Many people seem to ignore the fact that they are responsible to ruining ACM.

Probably a bad idea, but game franchises have turned around before. Sonic Generations was pretty good, even though the last decade indicated it wouldn't be.

Releasing it so soon after the first fiasco seems like a calculated risk. If the new game ends up decent, then it might help mitigate the huge credibility loss and give them a reason to keep the license. Relysis' Sonic example is pretty spot on, though they'd probably give up on Aliens sooner than Sonic.
Thanks for the chance!
