You trudge slowly up the hill. The street gets narrower and older looking. You're not certain, but the graffiti and the police officers with unfriendly-looking dogs make you think you're probably in a bad neighborhood. Still, nothing for it now. You pull your cap down and hope you don't look like a bumbling foreigner. You are almost at the top of the hill when you meet the worlds worst pickpocket.

He's a tall, rail-thin man, and from all the way across the street, which isn't very full, he starts nonchalantly sidling up to you. You see him coming right away, and you even know he's a pickpocket (perhaps it's that feeble, cockeyed mustache, or the fact that he's very conspicuously not looking at you). It's more awkward than frightening, really; you're not sure how to respond. Anyhow, you only have a Bic pen in the jacket pocket on the side he's heading towards, so you just let him come. A minute later he gracelessly bumps into you, and grunts an apology, though it takes him much longer than it should to get the contents of your pocket out.

As you keep on up the hill you hear him curse and drop something on the ground. That would be the pen. For some reason you feel bad for him. It's hard to watch somebody be so bad at their job.

What do you do?
Just keep going up the hill on the main street
Turn aside onto a side street to get away from the awkward situation with the pickpocket
