I never understood the need to choose between Star Trek and Star Wars, I love em both.
I'm currently (over the last few months) going through all of the Star Trek series (except for the original series & animated series). I've watched all episodes of "The Next Generation" , "Deep Space Nine", "Voyager" and "Discovery" so far. I'm now watching "Enterprise" and will end with "Picard".
I've also seen the movies (past the original series), but I really hate the newest ones.

Mostly because people comment on the topic. Personally I'm all in for the Clone Wars series.

Hmm, I watched the first season of the second Clone Wars animation. It was a bit too focused on children for me to truly enjoy. How are the Clone Wars you're watching?

They were designed as a 2 to 4 minutes-long shorts for Cartoon Network, and later compiled in two movies (one hour each). The animation is excellent and the clone trooper action is awesome, but it can be exhausting to watch them all in one go.
Here is a good example of what I'm talking about.

Clone Wars is amazing. Sure, it wasn't particularly deep, but each new episode felt like a great event even with the minuscule length.
Then again, you could probably tell I'm a fan.

Wars, but both are great overall!
But what about BSG or Stargate????

I haven't watched any of those two. And at this point I feel a bit intimidated to start them.

That's fair, but I still think it's worth it. ;)

Star Wars 9 is the best movie ever
Joking of course, I watched all (but enjoyed just some of) the Star Wars movies, and I watched and liked only the most recent Star Trek ones. Never saw any of the series. Star Wars imho wasted a lot of its potential repeating itself forever.

I tried watching the first Star Trek series, but found the pace too slow. About Star Wars, I like the memories more than the movies, last time I watched the original trilogy I noticed a few plot holes that made the movies worse for me.

I think that it's normal, they're from decades ago, they had to appeal to a different audience, also that "life in a starship full of lights and buttons" is something that may have felt wow 50 years ago, but nowadays they just look funny (they aren't old enough to live a revival, like what happened to the "Jules Verne science-fiction" that came back 15 years ago with the name of steampunk).
Talking about Star Wars, instead, we find great, immortal characters (Darth Vader has a magnificent dark scenic presence) that can balance the fact that the plot is not so deep and well developed. Star Wars deserved a great writer, and unluckily this didn't happen.

I agree. They must have been the best thing ever when they came out, but now there are more interesting shows that can hand wave most of the lore because of the old ones.
Speaking about bad writers, I'm still going to watch the Holiday Special one of these days. With a very strong drink :P

LOL, I had never heard about that special before, and from what I read now, my life was better XD

Love Trek, and have for 40-odd years.
Only ever saw the original Wars trilogy, havenโt seen any of the rest.

Star Trek definitely

Star Trek.
I like both, but it just has much more material for a conversation. I find the series to be very educative too.
I haven't watched SW Clone Wars yet.

Would you recommend a series or movie to start? I've only seen the reboot movies and the episode about tribbles.

I started from the the original series with Captain James Kirk. It is very slow paced, but with a good storytelling. Some of the characters are epic like Spock and Sulu. If you are curious and have the patience, start from there.
But in my opinion, you can skip it and start from Next Generation with the famous Captain Jean-Luc Picard. It is much more engaging and introduces a lot of new interesting characters which develop along the series. From what I gather, this is the most favoured series as well as the most favoured Captain hehe

I had not heard of that one, now I'll have to check it out, thanks.

I was being a little facetious tbh. It's an old campy series with bad cgi and cheesy outfits. I think it was out around the time of Farscape.

Hey, that's another one that I haven't seen yet :)

I made my choice clear on my Steam profile.

Both. With exceptions.
Star Trek all movies including the newest, but series pre-TNG. I also include the 70s animated series (that imo complete the 5 year mission, except maybe for some games). There are some classic Star Trek games that add more episodes to the 5 year mission too: Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, Star Trek: Judgment Rites. Too bad Star Trek: The Secret of Vulcan Fury was canceled.
Star Wars pre-Disney. Ep4, 5, 6, 1, 2, Clone Wars (2003-5), 3, Thrawn book trilogy (Heir to the Empire etc). The only Disney effort I give some points to for being made well is their Mandalorian series, but compared to everything I listed pre-Disney, the plot seems so petty. Guess you can't always have epic quality in Star Wars.
The creators who made the Disney takes on Star Wars movies, shame they didn't understand the source material with the previous films. Like the new Kobra Kai series makers never watched The Karate Kid films, so they didn't understand what made them so good. If you're going to follow something up, do your research homework first.

I love that Clone Wars animated series, by far the best of Star Wars for me.
