Description

Don't thank me for this copy, thank the developers from Ice-Pick Lodge — they are really nice folks. I absolutely love original Pathologic, Pathologic HD and other projects from this studio. I didn't complete Pathologic 2 yet (for a bunch of different reasons), but I backed it, I’ve closely watched the development process and I played it enough to love it already. It's a little bit rough and unpolished, but it's definitely one of a kind experience. Ice-Pick Lodge is, probably, the last Russian studio that could create such projects. And there may left no such studios in the near future.

Sadly, the game isn't selling well and the studio now is in a pretty depressive situation. It was hit really hard by the economic crisis in Russia: the main investor that was willing to invest 2 million dollars in this project decided not to do it after Kickstarter campaign (because of the crisis), a large amount of money they've collected through Kickstarter went into the production of physical goods for backers, they’ve also spent all their own money from previous projects on development, but it wasn’t nearly enough. There were also some difficulties with the development and engine… and the list goes on. The only publisher they were able to find was tinyBuild (and this is a really shitty publisher if you ask me). There were 20-30 people in Ice-Pick Lodge when they worked on Pathologic 2. Only 4-5 people will remain after.

Original Pathologic left a strong impact on me. And this giveaway is my way to say thanks to the Ice-Pick Lodge. There, probably, will be more giveaways of Pathologic 2 from me in future, if I will be able to afford it.

If you never heard of this game before — just watch some trailers, read the description on Steam, check the reviews (from Mandalore Gaming, for example) or listen it’s gorgeous OST by Theodor Bastard. And if you think that it looks interesting — consider adding it into your wishlist, please.

Good luck and have a nice day!

Haven't watched Mandalore's review yet. His first video on Pathologic made me so interested that I snatched a copy of it and am now planning to start a playthrough of it. I guess I'll be doing it sooner than I thought.

Once that's done, I'll most likely focus on making a video review for it as well (currently I have a project ongoing to start making video reviews, longer ones and quickies. Currently in the process of editing some videos to establish a small backlog) and considering what you've said, I should probably consider making a proper one for the first game.

I won't be able to afford the second game and that's just the sad reality of things, so directly buying it won't be an option for me. Regardless, I'll take my chance here and if the first game is good enough, I'll use word of mouth to spread the word (plus the review once I've finished the game).

Kinda odd how I actually give a shit about a company whose games I haven't even played. I'm glad they're open about their situation.

I hope they'll be doing better as time goes on.

Any reviews, videos and posts that could draw people's attention to the game, its developers and the situation around it would be nice and may help them a little. Anyway, good luck with your project!

They never complained about their problems and never tried to get attention to their studio that way. But if you ask them directly, yeah, they're pretty open about everything they could share. I've chatted with them a few times and they seem like really nice folks.

thank you for this giveaway. though i haven't played either game yet, i own the original, and the sequel is on my wishlist. it certainly sucks to hear that this dev has hit on hard times.i thought both games looked really good and am looking forward to playing them.

It's not a game for everyone, but it's definitely worth a try, especially if you already have the first one. It's interesting and unusual even 15 years after it's original release, at least if you can deal with some clunkiness and sharp edges.

Hope they will beat these economical problems. I haven't played any game from them, but i hate to see when indie studios collapse :/

It's sad to see that one of the oldest, most beloved and creative studios in my country can suddenly end up like that mostly 'cause of the reasons they can't control. As they say, it's probably their last project with that scope. And I really hope that it will not become their last project at all :\

I can reaaaly understand. I am from Turkey and last year, in one week everything become x2-3 expensive (and pretty much same until now). It is a really fucked up situation :/

Same here, it started in 2014 after the conflict in Ukraine and it only gets worse with every passing year :\

I think this is same for everywhere, but it is especially bad in countries that have low educated community.

I don't think it's only about education. It's more about people's mentality, the efficiency of propaganda, stubbornness and ravenous appetites of those in power. In Russia, for example, most people I know don't like our government. Some really hate it. And with every passing year there are lesser and lesser people who support it. But the laws tightened, the opposition is divided and demoralized, people tired. Many afraid to protest or to simply say what they really think — you can get an enormously huge fine and, in some cases, even go to jail for some stupid joke in social network.

Every country has some problems with corruption, economy and social politics, but the scale can be dramatically different.

I won't be able to know your situation as good as you, but looks Putin won the last election with %76 percentage of votes. Maybe your friends etc. don't like Putin, but looks like there are a fair amount of people who love him. I am saying education because if he is something wrong yet people giving votes to him, i generally see not educated people. (I don't mean university etc. btw)

But the laws tightened, the opposition is divided and demoralized, people tired. Many afraid to protest or to simply say what they really think — you can get an enormously huge fine and, in some cases, even go to jail for some stupid joke in social network.

Most of those happened in here as well. Yet they always said, "God with us, we are real Muslims, they are terrorist etc." which is total bullshit. You probably heard there was a coup attempt in Turkey a few years ago. It was because of a congregation that current government supported a lot for years. At some point, they couldn't agree on something and shit happened. Later they said "We were tricked". This year, they were literally talking with another congregation for election. And for fuck's sake, none of their supporters didn't said "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING? YOU WANT ANOTHER ONE NEXT YEAR?" Is that pressure? Nope. That is just low edication+religion. At least that is what happens in Turkey.

There is a huge pressure as well, and it definitely affects. But i don't think it affects as much as education.

Well, it worked that way for a long time in Russia. And religion still plays a significant role in people's minds too. But when the self-proclaimed "shepherds" of a peaceful religion openly supports wars, violence, corruption and thievery — even pretty stubborn "sheeps" from the "flock" starting to ask questions.

So, Putin (not his political party) was quite popular at some points, true. Thanks to propaganda, religion and pro-government media he has successfully built his personality cult. Some still think of him as of some sort unifier of the Russian lands. But his retinue is doing a damn good job by destroying this nice media picture.

Maybe he really won the last election with 76% of votes, with the use of administrative resources, falsifications and at a record low turnout (real opposition wasn't allowed to participate and most people doesn't even bother to vote). Corrupt actors, musicians and even high-ranking priests called to vote for him and, sadly, some people had listened to them.

But at the beginning of a new six-year reign period (yeah, the government changed the constitution for him and most people didn't even notice it) he started to lose his popularity very fast. His social politics always sucked, but now it's impossible to ignore anymore. Rising prices, rising taxes, raising the retirement age, reducing real incomes, reducing spending on health and education, the insolence of politicians, lawlessness of security forces, growing appetites of oligarchs, absurd laws, censorship, burning forests, burning dumps, falling rockets, exploding missiles and an endless series of scandals and failures — this is real Russia today.

That is a "good" sign, because from what i see from Turkey, that is the only way people start to the oppose. I hope everything will be better for you and us.

The other one is, probably, Knock-Knock or Cargo. At the beginning, they were planning to simply improve the visuals, fix some bugs and remade English translation from scratch, as it was the most requested feature. But with the additional funding and support from the backers, they decided to make a full reimagining.

The project became too big and ambitious, but the investor decided to quit with 2 million dollars they were counting for. As I understand, it happened after the end of the Kickstarter campaign and there were no turning back for the studio. So, they started to work with a small part of the initial budget and HD remaster was a way to get some additional fundings, to ease the wait and to please some fans of the original Pathologic that wanted the updated version of the game without any serious changes. They're also stated, that they used it, to gather feedback from new players.

They didn't gave a clear answer about the number "2" in the title, but I guess it was the publisher decision, not developers as rebranding happened right after the partnership was announced.

Knock-knock, in fact, their most successful project and it's kinda sad. Don't get me wrong, it have its charm, but it's nothing like Pathologic or The Void.

Don't know, it worked really good on my old PC (it had 4 or 8 gigs of RAM, not quite sure). You can try to contact them or the publisher of HD remaster (it was Devolver if I remember correct) — maybe they will be able to help you out.

HD version have better English translation, acheivements, and some bug fixes and, of course, 16:9 resolutions support. But otherwise original game isn't very different. I played original version about 7 years ago and it had unofficial HD patch, as I remember. And it worked pretty well with it despite broken flashlight.

And good luck with the GA — there is a small chance, but maybe you won't even need to buy it:)

It's nothing, really. I've heard that remaining devs are currently working with the publisher on console ports. Can't say anything about the quality of those ports (since it work for tinyBuild team), but at least those ports can result in some additional funding. So, yes, let's hope it will work for them.

I've heard of this game from Mandalore and it seemed too hardcore in terms of survival for me. But it looks very well done.

As far as I know, one of the patches added customasible difficulty — you can change or even completele turn off almost any aspect that seems too hardcore for you.

Oh yea, I know that from the video. There is a setting. But turning them all off seems to deviate from what the game's intent. What I want to say is this game is not my type, however, from Mandalore I can appreciate the difficulty of survival together with decision making, making the game require intensive resource management and thinking, and thus can be interesting to some population.
