How many hands usual robot should have? I think 2 because you cannot argue the evolution. I simply love independent robots and other life forms.
For better ability to see/view(?) and to deal with obstacles, having sets of eyes in front and back, along with arms/hands in front and back might be nice. I wouldn't mind having an extra set of eyes behind me or having a couple of extra arms as well. Hehe.
