It was just this morning that I was reviewing the long list of great historical figures who have passed on in my time. One of the drawbacks of getting old is watching those giants, those whose incredible advancements and abilities have given us all which we cherish, die off, one by one. Great leaders, innovators, and teachers may have hundreds of followers or students, but not one of them can replace the master.

To add to Graf's comment, the two games are mostly identical, but AoE2:DE has completely remade graphics, while AoE2 2013 (previously labeled AoE2 HD) just uses high-definition textures. There's also one of the campaigns- Aztec, maybe?- that gets redone between the two versions, meaning they have different content specifically in that one minor aspect. Oh, and DE has a TON more bugs and issues than HD, though those seem to slowly be clearing up. I don't think any other changes were of any note, between the two versions.
Basically, if someone already has HD, then they don't gain anything of note by getting DE- especially not with the DE version of AoE3, as well as AoE4 being scheduled for release soon (in other words, meaning you don't have to use 'redone graphics' as an excuse to replay the exact same game over again, just to get your AoE fix).
Oh, my bad. I'd forgotten it since, as you noted, it was only an addition to [general content]. You're correct:
