Then maybe you bought a region locked key that is only usable in other parts of the world, such as Russia. Other than that, there are no region locks for Dying Light/Dying Light Platinum Editon. Check Gamesplanet (German game store) for reference.

Oh, I saw my mistake. You can activate the Enhanced and the Platinum Editon in germany, but not the base game itself.

Since when? Please check it e. g. on h3b (you know the site ;) ). It's a grey market site, so I can't link it here.

Gamesplanet doesn't sell Dying Light (base game) in germany, neither do other sellers here.

It used to have a region lock, but we (yes, I used to lead the project that I'm about to link) got in contact with the developers and managed to have the region lock removed.

The reason the base game can't be bought anymore is simply that it was replaced with the Enhanced Edition. Same will be replaced with the Platinum Edition some time soo, I guess... The games may be purchased restricted on Steam itself, but that doesn't mean that region lock free key (EU keys, US keys etc.) don't work at all. Buying from cheaper regions (like Russia) may be unusable, but that's not just the case with Dying Light, but almost every other game that exists on Steam.

I bought my copy a few years ago, I mean, it was 2017 - and back then it didn't work. Ok, it would have worked with a VPN or a steam gift, but that's another case. But I don't really know where I bought it, but I'm sure, it wasn't the grey market, because I don't like it and I can be sure that the keys are official and suitable for my region. Maybe it was Gamesplanet - or GMG.

I still don't understand why the game is purchase restricted on Steam in Germany when the keys can be activated just fine and it can also be gifted from other regions just fine. It's really annoying. :(

No region restriction is set during giveaway creation (as you can see), that's why you see a game here even if it's unavailable in your region in Steam store.
SG won't automatically hide any games for you if they are unavailable.

This is why I ask. As it can't be activated in germany - according to many sources, a restriction should be set in the GA.
