BTW, I started using this site about 2 years after I initially registered. I had a private profile during that period, and it felt like it would be too much trouble to be active here with a private profile. Maybe it isn't, but I really don't see the reason to switch to a private profile now. I don't feel like I have anything to be ashamed of and I don't share any significant private information on my profile, so there's little if any potential harm.
Whenever there's a choice about privacy and public(ness?) It's not about hiding or any shame of something. To me it's about too much exposure to ..the world as we can probably say about the internet now. And that's it really.. It is a little thing being open in your immediate area and a whole new ball game "sharing" yourself with so much unknown ..peers.
But again, I haven't made up my mind yet..

About 80~90% are linked behind SGTools filters.
