GL guys.
Random question...
How many languages do you speak?

I speak 6 different languages! 3 of them fluently/at a native level (English, Portuguese and Dutch) and 3 at an advanced to intermediate level (Italian, Spanish, German). Tried to learn French a few years ago but didn't really enjoy it.

I am also learning Japanese!

Wow, nice!
Thats an interesting combination. Are you a Dutch that somehow have learnt portuguese?! Or the other way around?
Im portuguese, that makes me even more curious hehe.
I am fluent in spanish and english too.
Currently learning german (low intermediate) and French (had my B2 exam today).
Next one should be Italian.
You need some guts to learn japanese! One day i will find the courage to tackle chinese mandarin.

I am actually Brazilian! I was raised in a bilingual home here in Brazil (mom and dad used to be English teachers and instructors at language learning summer camps).

Lived in Arnhem, Netherlands for a year during an exchange program, learned Dutch there. Knew nothing of the language before arriving in NL and was able to speak it fluently in around 8 months there. It was the 6th language I learned, so that's probably the reason it wasn't that hard hahaha. Also being exposed to the language literally 24/7 helped a lot. Hoping to do that with Japanese eventually.

Very nice that you had your B2 today! Hopefully you perfect it as you wish!

Italian is my secret love. I really wish to put some more time into it to become fluent, but not happening in the near future lol

Honestly, Mandarin is 110% more useful than Japanese, but, but, but ANIME.

Did you learn Spanish at school? I imagine that being Portuguese makes it quite easy to be exposed to more Spanish, since Spain is literally just a couple hundred km away and locomotion through Europe is pretty simple and straightforward.

What are you thinking of German, btw? It definitely made it easier for me to learn Dutch, since both languages have super similar sentence structure and a lot of shared/similar words and sounds (despite Dutch being probably even more like English regarding the latter topic).

I stayed for two weeks in the Netherlands once. I was amazed at how confortable they could speak english. When in listen to Dutch i can understand some German words an the verbs in the end of the sentence. Dutch sounds really cool but is not worthit to learn it unless you plan to leave in the netherlands because they all speak english so well.

Everyone that i know that learn Japanese is because of Anime hehehe. But since i dont watch Anima i can go for the more useful language. In 25 years when China decides to invade Europe i might survive by working as interpreter or something :D

I have been living in Spain with a spanish women for the last 10 years, so yeah. Now im even finding hard to speak portuguese because spanish gets on the way :X

I find German really interesting with the crazy sentence structure. I like it much more then french, french is very frustating because you pronunciate all the words the same way but then you write them in a complete diferent way. I work with lots of francophones so i will keep learning it.
