For best gaming experience, I strongly recommend the following:

1. Download the free open-source DXX-Rebirth port for higher-res graphics. Instructions for how to apply this to your Steam game folder here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=226941176

2. Download and install the extra D1X-Rebirth addon to use the OPL3 version of the game's amazing, immersive original soundtrack. Available here: http://www.dxx-rebirth.com/addons Just download the OPL3 file for D1X-Rebirth, and copy to Steam game folder as in step 1.

3. If using keyboard controls, make sure to re-map the hell out of those default keys. In this game you can maneuver in any direction; The freedom of movement makes the game quite fun, but also difficult to master. It is important to map the controls in a way that works for you.
