The calendar goes up to 30 days I think for the longest you can stretch it out, and some people will do that. I mean, it's pretty rare, but it does happen. Flash giveaways as short as an hour (shortest possible) also happens and that limits to people who will check within that time frame, aside from bots that enter automatically. I usually go with 24 hours or longer, typically 2-3 days, so that if someone checked the site once a day, there's a good chance that everyone who would see it from around the world would have a chance to enter.
