I got Civ5 yesterday by splitting that very same bundle with several other people. Haven't played it yet at all so I'm not sure if it's sensible to be entering for DLC yet. How much does it change the gameplay, would it be better the try and get the hang of this game with the vanilla version? Great giveaway anyway, you're being very generous!
The expansion changes the gameplay quite a bit, mainly by adding customizable religions, nine new civilizations, and by changing combat. It's really not that hard to learn how to play the game with or without the expansion, so I highly recommend getting the expansion, and I can't imagine playing the game without it.
