True story. We all need food to live (I am glad that I got that obvious statement out of the way). The fact is not everyone has that luxury. Luckily, you have local food banks out there to help those who need them. However, do you know what your local food bank needs most? If you said food, that's not really the case. Here is a quote from Westside Food Bank Chief Development Officer, Genevieve Riutort on food drives and donating food in general:
"Canned food drives don't suck, but they are not the most efficient way to give" .... "The truth is the best way to help a food bank is to donate money because we buy food on a wholesale level and we work with farmers so we can take the dollar you might spend on a single can of beans and turn it into exponentially more food."

i very much appreciate what Do-Gooders Gaming does; i joined soon's i first saw you mention it, but have yet to get really involved...
how does it work? just, out of your own pocket? is there like a proof within the group (not implying anything, simply asking)? how does the group work as a group? are members expected/encouraged to do the same? how is the charity in question decided?

Excellent questions:
This is out of my own pocket. I budget a certain amount each month that I give to charities/other causes and thought this would be a fun way of incorporating this into my charity budget.
There is proof. After I am done doing a promoted charity's run, I post the recent (with personal information blocked) in the Steam Community Group. The donations are made after I am done promoting the charity. For example, with this weeks and next week's giveaways, I am promoting Food banks and when that is done I will make the donation and post the proof in the comments section in the giveaway announcement.
I made the group simply as a way to promote giveaways of the week and to encourage discussion among other Steam users. I would like to see users suggest charities or maybe game giveaways in it.
When it comes to other users doing the same thing that I do with the group, I do not expect them to do it at all. I would personally want to run the giveaway if they are using the group OR give that user a rundown of what I am looking for in a giveaway. I am also open to taking Steam Gifts/Humble Bundle gift links and possibly Steam Codes to give out onto this site.
Picking charities can be difficult. Some I have picked out because I wanted to do a theme. For example, last week all the games that were given away had animals connected to them, so then I researched for highly reputable animal charities before coming to the Wildlife Conservation Society. Other times, it can tie into the time of the month, maybe a news article I found or stuff that I am interested in. With anything that I pick, I run it through a charity watch site just to determine that the charity is worth promoting.
I hope that answers your questions :)
