Fun fact number 27,3:
The northern lights are caused by solar eruptions. Charged particles originating from the sun travel with up to 3.000 km/s towards earth. Here they enter our atmosphere and ionize the gas (mostly nitrogen and oxygen) in our atmosphere. Oxygen for example then sends out green light.
