So there is this old school turn-based browser game that I like to play to kill time. This style of game used to be pretty popular; this one has been around since 2003 and is one of the few left that still has a decent player base -- ever heard of it?

Yeah, tons of stuff. Rome Total War, SimCity 4, Sims 2, Outpost 2, Freelancer and Locomotion are ones I can think of immediately.
EDIT 2: Also, Knights of Honor, Startopia, Evil Genius, Railroad Tycoon 3, Port Royale 2, Patrician 3, Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, Cultures (don't remember which ones), Cossacks, SW Battlefront 2, SW Empire at War, Space Colony, Stronghold, Stronghold Crusader.
